The spring sunlight was warm and refreshing. The breeze brought a fresh scent of forest and field from far away places. The sky was not clear, but partly clouded over with pale gray clouds. A lovely Northern spring day. It was perfect to be up in the heights where both dragon and rider could relax. Well, that was really more like a frame of mind.
T'rell was not exactly the one doing the relaxing, Zurith was. Being that is was spring, there were a few yearly items that needed to be seen to. Seasonal list of things to do and right on top because of importance of safety was riding strap assessment and repairs. A Wingleader could get mighty unhappy if the straps of any of his riders was in disrepair. It was unsafe and unnecessary. Thus T'rell every spring and fall sat on the fire heights when the weather was fine to look over his straps and repair them. That left Zurith to sun himself on the heights and doze, one of his most favorite pasttimes.
I do not mind this. Zurith remarked.
T'rell looked up and over at the dark blue dragon who was stretched over a smooth area with closed eyes. Along that dozing face was a single long claw mark that seemed to be repeated in smaller and to greater degree all along his tail. Such a peaceful dragon Zurith was that the scars upon his hide were almost sad. T'rell just smiled and sighed softly to himself as he thought, Yes, well, neither do I. His bright green eyes glanced over each length of leather strapping that he ran through his hands. Each movement was quick and sure from turns of practice. Say, why did the wherry join the caravan?
Oh, not your jokes again? I'll fly away from those Zurith threatened. He had opened his eyes and they flashed as the dragon's muscles tensed. He did like the game of trying to fly away from his T'rell's terrible jokes.

Seeing as it was such a lovely day out, Syranoth was out flying around the Weyr simply to enjoy the day. The Green loved flying, even when Hers was unable to join her. He had a few things to do in the weyr, chores he said, and that they could spend time together later. She knew Hers wouldn’t lie to her, not about flying. He loved flying too, and sometimes they even went to see the sea. She liked the sea and swimming and… everything Hers liked. Are you nearly done, Mine? She asked as she circled the Weyr again, swooping and diving amongst the clouds.
I am, come meet me on the fireheights. I’m going to drop off your straps. They’re starting to fray. Y’kito explained as he descended the stairs to the bowl. He felt her happy mental nudge in reply as she soared off, intending to get a little extra flight time before going to land. The Greenrider chuckled in amusement as he entered the bowl with the fireheights in mind as his destination. He could have easily had Syra carry him over, but he could use a little exercise and it wasn’t like it was THAT far away. Besides, it was a nice day out and he wanted to enjoy it just as much as his dragon did.
“Would you mind fixing these for me?” Yuki asked, slightly out of breath when he finally reached the heights, looking at T’rell. “They’re starting to fray and I’d rather they not give out on me in the middle of flight.” He laughed as he laid them next to the Bluerider. He heard the tell-tale rustle of wings behind him as Syra landed, bumping up against him as she hid shyly behind him.
You didn't tell me that others would be here... She said, trying to hide her face with her wing as she curled her tail around her sitting form.
Yuki laughed lightly as he patted the Green on the nose. “Don’t be shy, Syra, it’s not like they’re going to eat you.” He told her, giving her a little kiss on the nose to which she trilled happily. “They’re just enjoying the sun like we are.”

"Eh?!" T'rell half jumped up and dropped his newly oiled riding straps when Y'kito appeared. And then the straps just fell right next to his. "Oi! You've not cared well for these and... hey!" He made a face and then just sighed in defeat. He wasn't being listened to. Made sense, since Zurith hardly listened to him, especially when it came to his terrible jokes.
Y'kito, he knew, was a fresh face greenrider from the last clutch that had been laid by the current Weyrwoman who would soon step down. Granted everyone knew that she was old and clutches were few and far between. The fact she clutched a gold was a great blessing. Among those were a great many greens and blues and Y'kito had impressed one. T'rell wasn't Weyrlingmaster or an Assistant, but many knew that he would help the young ones when asked. He was easy to approach and friendly, better than many of the other riders who wished to fight Southern or dreamed of the old days.
I have been here since morning. Zurith remarked to Syranoth. He raised his head from where he lay and considered the green. A thought of her being pretty crossed his mind.
Oh, pretty is she now? T'rell smiled and he collected his completed straps and put them off to the side and looked at the cracked and fraying leather of the riding straps. They were in a very sorry condition and he shook his head. "Shards you're lucky you haven't been lost in the skies." He held them up and surveyed the damage. It would probably take the whole rest of the day. There were salavagable parts like the buckles and parts of the harness, but much of it needed some good care. He used to be like this, forgetting to care for his straps up until he made it a part of his schedule.
He stretched and looked at Y'kito with a smile, he remembered being that age with a new dragon and a lot of fun ahead. "Guess I best get this started so the two of you can fun, huh?"
Not loosing energy, are we? I might want to go swimming too, you know. Zurith was much more alert now. Granted he was in the sunlight and quite content to lay there, he still liked to have fun and play. So did T'rell.

Y’kito sighed and rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. “You’re right. I guess it was just one of those things where you say ‘I’ll do it next time’ and next time becomes next time becomes next time and before you know it your straps are falling apart.” He shrugged, rubbing Syra’s nose gently, causing her to trill lightly. To be honest, he was rather embarrassed that he’d put off getting their straps fixed for so long. It was quite unlike him, he had to admit, but at least he’d brought them now and not waited any longer. “It’s rather unlike me to procrastinate for so long.” The blond admitted as he plopped down next to the Bluerider. It seemed as though he was staying for a while.
I don't want to disturb you, then. Syranoth replied, still rather shy as she crawled over to lounge in the sun. She wasn’t so close to Zurith that they were touching, but not so far away that there was a large amount of space between them. He is rather handsome... She commented to Hers, not sounding shy at all. She could be honest with her rider and not have to worry about what anyone said.
His rider isn’t bad looking, either. Y’kito replied with a laugh. Oh, he loved Syra so much… “No, take your time.” He told T’rell. “I’d rather the job get done right and slowly than quick and poorly.” He said sagely with a nod. A hurried job could mean death in the skies. “But you’re welcome to join us whenever you finish. IF you finish.” He added, trying not to laugh. “I can help if you’d like.” He offered, cocking his head to the side.

T'rel chuckled and laughed a bit as Y'kito explained his reasons. They were not too different from the reasons he had for not doing things. Only for him it was not exactly saying he'd do it later, it was that he just quite simply forgot. Yet that was precisely the purpose behind having a schedule, provided he didn't forget that as well! Today and through the past few turns, T'rel hadn't forgotten to do too much. He had been keeping to his schedule much better than he had before and so he was entirely sympathetic to Y'kito, though he still felt that a decent chiding was due none the less.
"Right you are! We need to do this right the first time so the next time you procrastinate maybe they won't be so bad!" T'rel attempted to sound harsh and he tried to put on an angry, disgruntled face, but he failed miserably. Towards the end a smile cracked through and then as he sat there, his stare failed as well and he just started to laugh.
He shrugged a bit and started to measure out the leather straps with those he had ready for use as extras from his. He hadn't needed so much but he had tread on the path of the wary. "It could be worse, you could have no straps at all!" T'rel said with a bit of a nervous smile. "And then we would not have you or your beautiful green here to grace our presence with." That last bit was sort of a form of flirtation.
Oooooh, and I'm the one to flirt? Zurith eyed his rider with some amusement and looked at Syranoth. The thought was still there, she was rather pretty, but he was biased in many ways. He was always a big fan of greens, though he hardly had any fans among them. You could hardly bother me any more than my own rider does with his terrible jokes. He told the younger green with playful connotations. Zurith would welcome the company of any other dragon over the awful humor of his rider any day claws down.
That hurts, Zurith. T'rel remarked.
