With Vandyith finally off the Sands, the area was quiet and peaceful. A perfect place for Nirti to abscond to lay her clutch, though that had been a few sevendays ago. The eggs were now close to hatching and ready to be passed out to prospective owners. Prospective because even if the eggs hatched, it didn't mean the flit inside would Impress to the person at hand. Kirla doubted that the whole clutch would Impress anyway, which is why she was passing out eggs here, on the Sands. What eggs didn't go to people would be left with Nirti until they Hatched, then whoever was present could try or the flitts would go to the wild. She had seen several wild flitts hanging around lately and knew that they would be helping with the Hatching, when it happened. As it was they were keeping themselves hidden at the moment.
Kirla settled herself on a cushion underneath the small roofed area above the bleachers an eye on Nirti tending her small clutch of eggs. She was a little disappointed that no noticable gold egg could be discerned but then Nirti had come from a non-descript egg labled as a brown. Most of the eggs were good size and they were all well-tended, mark of a gold mother. A few of the Weyr's tame flitts were helping turn the eggs but Nirti kept a watchful eye on all of them. It looked like it would be a good clutch.
If you would like an egg, please post here, one egg per weyrling though

It was a relief to not be stuck doing chores for once, but sometimes she preferred chores to talking to T’ran. He wasn’t a bad person, but sometimes it was rather trying to be in his presence. Fortunately, Ana had decided that today was a day for doing rather than sleeping for once and was padding by her side. T’ran was talking about some of the duties she would be given once she graduated, but she was barely listening, especially with Anaelth chattering away in her mind. It was nice in a way, but that made it hard to pay attention. Fortunately, a legitimate distraction came up when they neared the hatching sands. “There are firelizard eggs, aren’t there?” She asked, jogging toward the sands with her hatchling in tow without waiting for an answer.
Mine, what is a firelizard? Ana asked as she trotted after Hers, watching the blond girl as she picked up her pace. Cresce didn’t answer right away, not until the clutch was in sight. Wow, they were pretty big… “Those are firelizard eggs.” She told the hatchling as she approached Kirla, nodding a greeting to the other woman. “Are they ready?” She asked, glancing at the clutch then back to her. Ana wandered off to hover over the eggs, sniffing them curiously before returning to Cresce’s side when a Green screeched at her. I don’t like them. She grumbled, shuffling her wings.

"And you'll, yeah now that I think about", T'ran did a complete one-eighty in what he had been saying. He had been meaning to get down to the Sands to pick up an egg for Gimna. A flitt would be extremely useful for the Weyrwoman, no matter what she claimed otherwise. He followed her onto the Sands and stood behind her as she approached Kirla.
"Well they aren't due to Hatch for another sevenday but if you want to take one with you, you are more than welcome too", Kirla answered, reaching for a clay pot. "What you do is put some sand in the bottom, set the egg in the sand and then cover it with sand. If you are outside the heat tends to keep the sand warm, if you are inside you can set it by a brazier or fireplace. Or you canmark the egg with charcoal and leave it here", she explained with a shrug.
"I'll need two Kirla, and if you can make a good guess, preferably bronzes or browns. Both are for Gimna", T'ran explained, already reaching for two pots so that he could fill them with sand. "If you want to try for one Cresce, I'm sure Gimna will let you keep it in her weyr. Since you see one of us every day it wouldn't be hard for you to find out when it was Hatching", he offered as Kirla returned with two large eggs. "Nirti thinks these two might be higher colors", she added, setting each one in the pots he held. "Thanks Kirla".
"Do you want one Weyrwoman?"

“Of course I’d like a firelizard.” Cresce replied as she reached for a jar to fill with sand. She’d never had the chance to own a firelizard before, but if things were going to be as hectic as T’ran had told her once she’d graduated, having a lizard around would be a great help. “What do you think, Ana?” She asked as she filled the jar with sand, looking over at the hatchling who was having a staring contest with the Green that had screeched at her.
There was a long silence as the Queenling stared down the Green flitter who seemed in no mood to back down until Anaelth snorted at her, knocking the poor little thing over. I don’t mind as long as you don’t get a screechy little one. She snorted again.
The blond rolled her eyes, but nodded in agreement. “You can pick it if you want. I’m really not that picky. “ She shrugged as she finished packing the bottom of the jar with sand, making sure to leave enough room for any size egg.
Ana seemed to like this and trilled happily. I think I just might. She said arily as she began to look over the eggs, circling the group rather than walking through them. She may not have had the most common sense at this point, but she was old enough to know what she’d crush the eggs if she tried to walk through them. She took her merry old time, making sure to avoid the smallest eggs for fear that a ‘screechy little one’ might hatch from it. Regardless, she was being very picky about which egg she chose and after a long period of deliberation, she finally nosed a large-ish egg with her nose. I like this one. She announced, nudging the egg again lightly. It seemed plain enough but for a marking near the top like a trio of slightly lopsided hearts.
“If you say so.” Crescentia nodded and reached for the egg and gently put it in the jar before covering it liberally with sand. “If it hatches into a Green, Ana, then it’s your fault, just so you know.” The girl pointed out as she put the lid on the jar and picked it up, finding it much heavier than before. “Faranth, I didn’t think sand and a little egg was this heavy…”

He finished filling his two pots with sand and politly waited for Cresce to make her decision. "It's that egg that is heavy", T'ran pointed out as she finished picking her egg. "Is there anything you need Kirla while you are out here?", he asked the lower caverns woman. "I'm fine for now sir. Tell Gimna I said hi", Kirla added in farewell. "Will do", T'ran nodded to her.
"Come on Cresce, let's get these up to Gimna's weyr so she can keep an eye on them. The healers have decided to let her in sit in a chair so I know she is in a wonderfully good mood today", T'ran told the junior Weyrwoman as they left the Sands. He did not particularly care for flitts but Gimna needed all the help she could get, especially if she fell and a flitt should be able to get that help.

There was something deeply familiar about the place, even if she lacked the capacity to recall specifics. Weeks after the momentous occasion memories of those first few moments of life were bleary, as though the sea tide had been and washed away all but the vaguest impression. Light. Noise. But she knew, sensed perhaps, that the wide, sand basin was important. The territory of the very grandest and the very youngest, but it wasn't any kind of vestigial wonder that had lured her here - not for the cavern itself, anyway. Rather, her eyes had been drawn quite innocently by a procession of firelizards. Flitterbugs, she'd decided to christen them, since it was easier to draw parallels between the tiny creatures and trundle-bugs than the great dragons they so resembled. She looked down as the stone floor of the passageway gave way to hot sand, and upon raising her little head again to find her impromptu guides was somewhat disappointed to note that they'd left her behind.
Peering in to the cavern that so vastly outsized her, the little green was excited to note that the place was teeming with flitterbugs of all shapes and colours, though the reason for their flocking was still unclear to her. Sweeping her facetted, blue eyes downwards, her attention alighted on the small gathering of people - Anaelth, too! Her A'mry didn't have any patience for youngling gold's rider at all, but as he hadn't yet formed any particular opinion about the dragon Genilth reasoned she was allowed to be friendly in the meantime. As for the tall, scarred man, the green seemed to remember her Rider containing some distinctly mixed feelings on him, but more than that she couldn't remember. But if Anaelth was allowed to see the reason for the flitterbug's excitement, surely she was allowed a peek? Skulking closer, her curious gaze found the neat little clutch of eggs with fascination - though the moment was distracted somewhat as she overheard Crescentia's response to the gold's choice of egg.
But... what is wrong with Green?
The first thing A'mry knew of Genilth's disappearance was the lack of any particular reaction when he burnt his thumb on a glow. He was used to her being quiet, it was already joked by a couple in the barracks that she was more of a second shadow than a dragon to him, so when there wasn't even an expression of curiosity for what had caused him to swear like a Tillek sailor the young man had been bemused enough to take note. The distinct absence of brilliant green hide had made him curse all over again. She'd declined joining her clutchmates on the beach this morning, electing instead to join him on his chores. He should have known better than to trust the hatchling not to get distracted. Retracing his steps, A'mry was fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of unmistakable green as he passed one of the entrances to the Sands, gritting his teeth briefly upon seeing who else was there. Sharding wonderful. Still, he couldn't exactly call for his dragon to 'heel'. Wandering over to retrieve his errant hatchling, he arrived in time to catch Genilth's puzzled query and snorted softly.
"I daresay its not shiny enough," he muttered, glancing over the humans present to the clutch of firelizard eggs. Ah, so that was what the weyrbrats were so enthused about.

While Hers was occupied with talking to T’ran, something about leaving, Anaelth had wandered back over to the clutch to look at the eggs. She was very curious about them even if she hadn’t made the connection between them and her own birth. Yet she found her way barred yet again by the screechy Green, the one that annoyed her. I will eat you if you screech again. She told the flitter sourly. The Green seemed to take no heed of her, but promptly fled between when the hatchling’s jaws closed mere centimeters from her body. There. She snorted, rather pleased with herself until she heard her sister’s question.
Oh, sister Genilth! Ana called, immediately losing interest in the eggs in favor of trotting over to nudge her sister in greeting. You didn’t see that screechy flittybye screech at me! She was so mean! The queenling pouted, wings fluttering a bit in agitation. I do not like the Green flittybyes. I like you much better. She offered by way of clarification with a nod.
“At least someone has sense.” Cresce snorted as she followed T’ran out, pausing when the two hatchlings began to talk. She was in a rather good mood right now and even A’mry’s comment didn’t anger her. “She doesn’t want me to have a Green because one kept screeching at her to try and keep her away from the eggs.” The blond explained, but she didn’t expect the boy to believe her. Then again, his opinion didn’t matter if he was going to act like this all the time.

"You go on ahead Cresce", T'ran told the gold Weyrling, depositing his two pots in her arms without asking permission. "Take these to Gimna and don't let her get over-excited about them", he warned her as he pretty much told her to get off the Sands. "I'll be up in a few moments to check on her and then we are going to meet with THE MasterHarper of Pern", neither side really believed the other's MasterHarper was the THE MasterHarper of Pern but the two men themselves were actually passable friends and didn't mind so much. With their supposed neutrality to everything but knowledge, the friendship didn't get in the way of their work, though it was a friendship founded on letters flown by flitt.
"A'mry", T'ran reached into a pocket and removed a fairly worn scrap of parchment folded into a letter with a broken wax seal. With paper being rare on Pern, except for certain Holders who could pay out the teeth or who had it tithed to them, this letter could have come from a single, small source. "What interest does my brother Hallek have in you exactly?", he asked, once he'd come to the side of A'mry so they would have some small measure of privacy. Seeing the Weyrling here, kept T'ran from hunting him down later.

Pleased at the eager reception as much as the reassurance, Genilth was quickly pacified even if her A'mry wasn't. Flicking her tail and rustling her wings in a manner that the Weyrling recognised as happiness, the little green toddled forward to greet the nudge with one of her own. I would not very much like to be screeched at either, she reflected, nodding. Though you are so very big, and they are so very not. Perhaps they think you are a great golden monster come to take their treasure! Having not yet made the connection between the fragile ovals and the firelizards, and having spent far too much time around Nistelath, she naturally assumed that it was treasure that they were guarding. What else?
A'mry snorted, quietly dismissing the gold Weyrling's explanation and opting instead to ignore her. It was as good a concession as Crescentia was going to get, though he did at least have the fairness to admit (if only to himself) that he'd made an assumption. A justified one, mind; even in Rider's terms the majority of the weyr seemed to view green as a somewhat lowly Impression. Bastards. Speaking of which, he glanced up suspiciously as T'ran dismissed the junior weyrwoman and adjusted his path to bring him closer to A'mry. He didn't even have to know what the Weyrleader wanted to know he wasn't interested. Moreover, nor was he impressed about the mention of 'the' MasterHarper. The man couldn't hold a note to save his life.
"No more interest than he has in any other member of the Weyr, I imagine," he replied, guarded but not overly so. As if he honestly hadn't a clue what T'ran was talking about.

"Well I hope I am not any other 'member' of the Weyr, seeing as I am his half-brother", T'ran snorted, "And I know full well I have his interest, shards I had his interest from the day he learned I was in charge of his father's forces", he added, rolling his eyes at the stupidity of Hallek. "But your imagination doesn't seem to be working at all", T'ran pointed out, "So I will tell you what interest my brother Hallek has in you", he explained.
Weyrleader T'ran, Presuming this finds you well, I would like to congratulate you on Knymawth's successful clutch and hatching. I am dreadfully sorry about the young green that had to be sent away but it was for the good of the Weyr after all. Speaking of young greens, I ask that you keep a particular eye out for the Weyrling A'mry as he has much in common with you, despite choosing a more peaceful occupation than you. Our brother's mind is more fragile than our's as he is not a man of war but of politics. Keep this in mind, Overholder Hallek of Lidal
After he read the note, he glanced at A'mry. "It seems that I must yet add another brother to the somewhat longer list", he added, sighing. He bit his lip as he thought over what to do with A'mry. "There is more to this letter than meets the eye and I want you to do me a favor, he paused for a moment, "If anyone approaches you about me, and I don't care if they want to discuss what I had for lunch, I want you to tell me. You might know about Harper politics, but Weyr politics are outside your skill range".
