-Five Sentences equal One Paragraph-
Appearance: At 5’10, with a strong build, Koloran prides himself in being what he considers ‘strength personified’. He’s a rather sturdy guy, which gives off the impression that Koloran really was never a gangly child. This build, along with his dark hair and sharp eyes are often used to his advantage. By looking intimidating, he understands that not many people would be willing to bother him.
Should one be interested in knowing more about Koloran based on his appearance alone, they would have a lot of trouble. He has a rather difficult face to read, after all. While emotions could normally be found in the eyes, Koloran’s appear to be cold and unforgiving. What helps is the fact that he is very willing to stare back at a person until they look away first. Should one expect to find emotions written over his face, then they would be severely disappointed. He prefers to keep his emotions to himself, and keeping any animated expressions off of his face helps him with that.
Personality: ‘Cold beyond all frozen things’ might be a good way to describe Koloran to those who have only just met him. It’s highly inaccurate, because he isn’t quite as cold as he allows himself to appear to be. His sharp eyes, as said before, are always used to his advantage. If he’s able to bore holes in someone else’s head, he can be left alone. To Koloran, solitude and darkness have always been his faithful companions. Nothing could happen to him if he were alone, after all. Anything about being afraid of the dark was just silly—the dark never harmed anyone.
Oddly enough, he has a soft spot in him for all of those who can’t help themselves, those who are smaller and, strange enough, to those who have nothing left. In a world where death is rampant, Koloran might just be crazy to want to protect them. Perhaps because of it, he’s extremely perceptive of everything around him.
When it comes to loyalties, they are few and far between. No one is going to help him, no one will be loyal to him, and so why should he be loyal to others? Should someone
deserve it, then they will have by them a person who would be loyal until the end. Though he selects who should have his loyalties, his respect goes to those who are in power, as it should be. Those in charge are deserving of respect, and speaking to them in anything but a respectful tone is, without a doubt, something that they deserve.
Koloran has a strong survival instinct. He wants to live, and will do anything to make sure that he’ll survive anything that comes his way. Though he’s got a fighting will to survive, he puts the safety of others before his own. Strange, considering how few loyalties he has.
History: Most of Koloran’s early life was a rather dull blur of events. Born to Kolom and Jirani, he was their first child, and was brought up to be independent; it would be him that they needed to rely on, and he needed to grow up fast. However, his father praised him whenever he did well, and so Koloran made that his goal… he was going to do the best he could out on the fields, learning about the plants and the different tricks of a farmer.
Though he cared for all of his siblings, he was closest with Kolan and Jirolm. The three of them would work out on the fields together and, when they had free time, would often play together. Koloran’s bonds with the other two was something that he valued above all else.
Tragedy would strike Koloran’s family when he was a mere ten turns old. When Koloran realized that Kolan and Jirolm went missing, he broke away from his parents and siblings, going on a rather hurried search for his siblings. It lead him inside the hold, and down into the darker caverns.
Someone yelled, and Koloran could tell that the voice was full of pain. Running full speed towards the sound, he found himself in a room with only one bright glow. Jirolm had gotten captured by the watch-wher, the light of the glow irritating him, and Kolan was backed up against the wall, staring on in horror. A quick bark of an order form Koloran was all Kolan needed to snap herself out of her daze. With Koloran acting as a decoy, Kolan was able to grab a broken and bloody Jirolm to pull him out of the way.
Unfortunately for Koloran, his stunt would injure him as well. The wher jerked towards him, swiping his claws. It managed to drag across his chest, although Koloran wasn’t brought down. Instead, he managed to back away, right as his sister dragged his brother out of the room. They managed to escape, the chained up wher snarling his distaste for the children.
Koloran’s injuries were deep, and he only managed to catch a glimpse of Kolan, who was crying, and Jirolm, his eyes half open, who was lying motionless on the floor. He just managed to whisper his sister’s name, unable to finish his sentence when he collapsed.
When he finally awoke, he was bandaged up, too sore to move. Kolan was next to his bed, shaken but safe. It was only when he asked that he received the news. Jirolm had not made it. He was already dead when the adults had arrived.
The once happy Koloran had nothing to say, instead rolling over and demanding that everyone left him alone. Once he was alone, he cried for the last time in his life. He had failed his family, and his brother was gone because of it. He was absolutely convinced that had he watched Jirolm and Kolan better, nothing bad would happen.
Ever since then, he grew colder, keeping control on how close he got to people. Everyone died eventually; growing attached would only lead to difficulties when a goodbye was in order. Since then, it seemed as though only Kolan was able to read tiny changes in Koloran's expressions. He managed to gain what many would call a 'game face', positive that it would be helpful to him. He also grew to have a watchful eye, being very perceptive of everything around him. He took a careful note of his younger siblings, making sure that they’d be safe no matter what.
It was a shock to him when he was Searched to go to the Weyr, not quite sure if he should take the opportunity because of the responsibility he had to his family. His father, like he had when he was young, praised him, telling Koloran that it was time for him to go. Without as much as a smile, he agreed to the Search.
