Secret Word: You can't handle the Truth!
Name: KaeluRank: Goldrider, Northern Weyrwoman
Age: 22 turns
Gender: Female
Sexual Preference: Heterosexual
Continent: Northern
Appearance: The first thing that most people notice when they meet Kaelu is that she is tall for a woman, having a total height of 5’ 11”. She is not a very curvy woman and much of her height is attained through the length of her leg and torso. Any curves that she would have therefore been stretched out and is slight around her hips and buttocks. Even her breasts are somewhat lacking and nothing to catch a man’s eye with. Kaelu is thin and wiry in build, but not from malnutrition, rather she has lean muscle and strong joints that make her sharp and angular unlike the usual curves of most woman. Her high energy and fast metaoblism gives her a hearty appetite and a healthy and fit body that is well-oiled and efficient for Weyr life. Kaelu has her share of bruises, scabs, and scars and has hardened feet and calloused hands from her rough and tumble, sporty lifestyle. She may be thin, her arms and her hands fine and dainty in appearance, and her shoulders small, but she can carry her own weight and more just as well as any man and she would dare to say better than some.
What does catch eyes about her is the way she holds herself, always up right and at attention. She also gets attention from her vibrant emerald green eyes, lush as the evergreen forests of the mountains, ringed in an earthy brown and flecked with gold. They have a friendly and intelligent gleam in them when she smiles, but can shoot daggers and freeze others when she stares angrilly. The almond shaped eyes contrast sharply with the deep night black of her hair. Kaelu has cut it short for the purpose of keeping it clean and tidy and because it fits better beneath a helmet this way. She has wispy bangs across her forehead and the rest of it is cut in an angled, layered bob. Occasionally she will tie portions of it together to help keep some of it out of her face, but otherwise she runs a comb through it and just lets it hang about her face. She has an ovular shaped face with high cheekbones and a sharp little nose. Her lips are thin, but she has a sweet smile and likewise, her eyebrows are thin, but always expressive. Some have even been known to notice her for her darker complexion which is more bronzed and not even from being in the sun, when she is tanned, she looks almost golden and has a vibrant glow about her.
Kaelu wears tight-fitting clothes, but not because they flatter her figure. She wears such things because they are practical. There is no need for her to worry about her movements and can easily do so with fabric that follows so closely with her. She favors dark colors like forest green, navy blue, maroon, and royal purple, but never in monotone, always with another color. She likes her boots half-calf high, sleeves to be tight from the elbow to wrist and her collar loose. Kaelu adores belts and uses them as her primary adornment, having a variety of colors, widths, and buckles. She always has a dagger and at least two pouches on her hip for trinkets and marks.
Personality: Kaelu is a person who is not physically attractive and whose personality can be dangerous, but that has never stopped her from being the center of attention. Being the middle child with two elder brothers and two younger sisters, she developed a very large set of lungs which she uses effectively with a loud voice. She can easily speak in a manner so that her voice carries far, echoing and caroling throughout a crowd without fail. She doesn’t like to be ignored and she will first and foremost speak loudly and then shout if need be to attain attention. Kaelu has a very tall, proud stance that she takes and if her voice does not radiate well, you can bet that her body will. She has an intense gaze, a loud voice, and a strong stance to achieve attention.
Kaelu is very dedicated, devoted, and proud. Being the energetic type, she always finds something to do, but does value some time to herself in which she can relax. She puts her all, her entire being, into everything she does. Whether she is donning socks, mending riding straps, oiling her dragon, or seeing to official Weyr business, her entire attention is on that activity and she will intensely work on her objective all the way through to completion. She doesn’t like to leave work undone and she takes great pride in her accomplishments no matter how small or large they may be. In her eyes, everything has value and everything matters and nothing should ever be taken for granted or done halfway. If someone should tell her otherwise and put down her accomplishments or tell her that what she did was meaningless, then Faranth help the poor soul. Her pride will leap into action and her emotions will carry her through to tell him otherwise.
She is an excellent listener, loves to talk and is surprisingly a chatterbox, hang about with friends, and is very adaptable to the situation around her. While Kaelu often is lighthearted and gentle, she can speak about very serious things with a full and gentle smile which can make her quite frightening. Kaelu has no difficulty in expressing her opinions and beliefs and can easily accept the beliefs and opinions of others. She can converse with just about everyone and likes to be the more neutral party when it comes to others. If it should come to be about her then it is a different story entirely. She does look down on those who try to change other people. There is no point in forcing someone to change how they think or feel and she feels that is very unfair for anyone to do this and she will tell them and lecture them outright. She does not judge people based on appearances or how they treat her initially, but rather she judges them by their actions and how they look at the world around them.
Kaelu is stubborn and stuck in her own beliefs, though she is accepting of others, she will not change herself for any other person except for maybe her dragon. She is outspoken and unafraid to speak her mind, making her a very nontraditional woman. She is highly emotional and rather brash, quickly changing emotions if something slight has happened. She is protective of others, her pride, and the idea that no one is weak. Kaelu has been known to get into fights with male riders who feel that women are useless and weak, peaceful and shy riders are a liability to their wing, and anyone different should be outcast. She will readily defend any of those and has done so in the past. She can easily go from a defensive stance to an offensive one and will intimidate not only with her quick words and harsh tongue, but with her body as well, easily encroaching on a person’s space and getting into their face.
In this respect Kaelu is a very fair person in this regard, or at least she tries to be. Her view of the world is fairly black and white which does not suit the colors of gray that Pern is currently draped in. She tries to be the neutral party in most circumstances, but she will easily take the side of the one at a disadvantage if only to further even the odds.
History: Kaelu was born the middle child to a pair of harpers who were married because of convenience, not love. They were content with each other’s presence and cared for each child they had. They first had two sons, Lueek and Naneek, and then they had Kaelu, their first daughter. After having two sons, Kaelu was the trial run daughter. She learned to talk by mimicking her brothers and learned to walk by trying to follow her older brothers. Kaelu was always trying to play and keep up with them and even when her younger sisters were born, she still ran and chased after them, often play fighting with them in an attempt to be their equal. She would shout and scream to be heard by them or her parents and did her best not to cry when she got hurt. Kaelu was very energetic and a bit of a tomboy, truth be told. She raced after her brothers if not to play a racing game with them, but to keep up with them so as not to get lost or left behind. She played rough, took the bruises with the scratches and nursed them herself, not crying so that her brothers didn’t make fun of her. What she wanted most was to be acknowledged by them.
As she grew a little older and her younger sisters needed looking after so that her mother could assist their father, Kaelu learned some valuable skills. Nanlu and Laelu were not as strong as she was and they were often afraid of things. Kaelu always promised to protect them from monsters, their bossy adolescent brothers, and thunderstorms. She became a very strong and nurturing presence in her family, taking up the true mother role. She was also extremely fair and upheld the household rules. Kaelu never spoiled them and insisted on them doing homework like reciting letters and figuring numbers, tidying about the house, finishing chores, and eating all their vegetables. They would cry and complain, but Kaelu stood firm as always and once they were seen to, she would pursue her own activities. Always adamant about completing what she set out to do and proud to do whatever it was, she was an excellent role model for her sisters. Excellent except for those times in which she would fight with her brothers over how she could do anything they did better or that she could beat them up in her loud, resounding voice right in their faces. Kaelu never back down, not once.
She entered her teenage turns with little much hope than to start all her lessons right, learn her chords, and eventually decide as to which trade she wished to pursue. There were so many and it was hard to decide. Harper like her parents, healer because they liked girls, beasts and farmer for the outdoors, weaver and tailor for the cloth, and on and on until she got dizzy with it all. Of course, times are quickly becoming dangerous with North and South quickly becoming enemies and being at odds more and more often. Kaelu didn’t know it then, but she had a place waiting for her in the fight. It was not exactly what she would have asked for, but it would be the hand dealt to her. She was going to be searched to stand as a candidate. It was a surprise to her and especially her parents. At the time Kaelu was 18 turns old and elbows deep in finding a trade for herself that could satisfy her desires. The prospect of being a dragonrider meant if she impressed, she would be low man on the totem pole, but it was better than nothing. Besides, she had a thing or two on her mind about this battle and in some way, small and unseen then, something she wanted to do about it.
Needless to say, Kaelu went knowing fully that she may well be scorned for being a holder or even because she was from a harper family who hailed neutrality. She didn’t take any mind to it. If they wanted to berate her and assault her pride she would only be too proud to accept the challenge and berate them back. They had no right to judge her simply based on where she came from. In earnest she wanted to work with them and she suspected herself a bluerider in the making, too rough to ride gold and too strong to ride green. It was a perfect match in her mind up until a turn a later when the hatching day arrived and the bond was made between her and the dragon, Kyrieth, the gold dragon. Kaelu never remembered just why she couldn’t see herself riding any other dragon than Kyrieth. She was too proud to be ridden by anyone else, too loud and vocal to be compatible with any of the other girls. They were a perfect match. For once in her life she was the absolute center of attention and everyone watched her and listened to her, they also spoke about her. She would not have minded so if it did not have to do with endangering not just her pride, but Kyrieth’s as well. She was often seen as the weyrling standing up for those seen as weaklings and starting fights with those who talked behind her back or teased the others. Occasionally abrasive to others, she merely tried her best and stood as tall and proud as she could. Being the only other gold and the one all the others depended on for the survival of the Northern Weyr meant that she had big shoes to fill. Kaelu never said that she did or didn’t look forward to her future responsibilities, she just didn’t want to be judged wrongly.
Three turns later and she already graduated from her weyrling class, she knows what her next hurdle is. She sees it in the expectant eyes all around her. They are all waiting for when Kyrieth has reached her maturity and announces it with her maiden flight. Kaelu had never been one for nervousness or anxiety, not even with the hatching so long ago. Now she feels the stray shiver as everyone looks to her and her confidence sways a little and a small, tiny voice invades her mind to ask: “Can you really meet their expectations?” She never answers it, only ignores it and tells herself that it is yet to be seen. Kaelu admits to not knowing the future, but she is determined to face it and the fights to come bravely no matter what Southern Weyr or even the Holder Lidal has in store for her and her Northern riders.

-Color:-Appearance: -Personality: V.I.D.Name: Kyrieth
Color: Gold (FFDD30)
Age: 3 turns (early)
Appearance: Kyrieth is perhaps currently the largest dragon, let alone gold, on Pern. She is a gigantic mass of rippling muscle beneath an iridescent gold hide. From her body length of 68 feet to her wingspan of 116 feet, she leaves a shadow no matter where she goes. Well-built, Kyrieth is defined by her strong appearance which is cemented by the sight of her muscles and ligaments in action with every move of her lean muscle. Her features are similar in kind to Kaelu’s, sharp and angular, especially her head which is triangular and long. Her muzzle ends pointedly and rises with some concavity to her eyes and forehead where the neck ridges begin. Her golden hide is of an ocher shade, being the sort of yellow gold that fades into an orange gold. She is lighter on her belly and all along her underside as well as the insides of her legs and wingsails. She is darkest along her topline from the tip of her nose to the tip of her tail. Kyreith stands very tall and very proud, even when she is relaxed. She has a regal air and the aura of importance no matter where she is or what she is doing.
Personality: What makes Kyrieth her own individual is defined by how she looks at the dragons around her. She sees the other dragons as those that look to her for guidance, support, and leadership. As such she takes it very seriously when one of them is hurt or when one has been lost to
between. Like Kaelu, she does not ignore the weaker dragons, but encourages them, except in flights of course. She is defensive of them and is likely to be severely defensive of her clutches. Her emotions are more stable than her rider’s, however, and she is calmer and less likely to change from one emotion to another as if by whim. She prefers to warn first, charge in later and does not jump to conclusions. Yet Kyrieth has a temper to reckon with and though it may take some time to awaken it, it burns exceedingly hot.
She does not take kindly to being ignored, disregarded, forgotten, or interrupted. Kyrieth is, like Kaelu, very vocal and likes to be heard, seen, and entirely the center of attention when she wants to be. Being gold makes her important and everyone should know it, acknowledge it, and treat her accordingly. She is proud of who she is, what she stands for, and will not see herself or others put down. Accepting who you are, dragon or human, is more important than what others think and if they think wrongly, then they should be corrected. Kyrieth follows this and is not afraid to refute another dragon or even a person for being wrong. Or rather if she finds them to be wrong. Where Kaelu does not like to judge others, Kyrieth is only too happy to.
History: She didn’t like being in the dark of the shell, that was her first thought. She knew that it was wrong and that being in the dark was not the place for her. She had to break free of the shell and step into the light where everyone could see her. Kyrieth did just that. She shattered her shell by thrashing against it bit by bit until at last she was liberated. The light had been brighter than she had thought it would be and she had blinked at it, dazed by the brilliance. In a few moments she was strolling across the hatching sands stepped over egg shards and past broken shells with little thought. People were standing and some looked at her with great expectancy, others closer and others further away each in little groups. Kyrieth paused in noticing this and approached a group in which most had longer hair and fairer faces. Something just felt right as she walked past them, hardly paying much heed until the last three and then it happened. It is so hard to explain, but it was as if suddenly a hole she didn’t know was there was filled and her curiosity about the world she had entered, this world of light, was sated. She went to the dark-haired, green-eyed Kaelu and made the bond that could never be broken.
Kyrieth was the weyrling dragon who was obedient and devoted entirely to her rider. She never once did not support her dear Kaelu even when she approached some of the boys about picking on the others. While Kaelu shouted at the boys, Kyrieth would shout at their dragons. She agreed that no one was weak, they all had something that only they could do and that was just as admirable as any other trait that someone else could have. She grew quickly, often eating a little more than she ought to, having several growth spurts in which legs were gangly or wingsails were dragged along. Even then, in those terribly awkward moments, she was proud of who she was and never took an unkind word without a snarl. Kyrieth dealt with the changes well because of the loving support of her dear Kaelu and the strength of their bond. Even when their graduation approached and some of the greens rose and she longed to because everyone was waiting for her to, her rider was there to remind to be patient.
Now as graduates, as a nearly full adult gold dragon, Kyrieth looks forward to her first flight because it is a part of her purpose and pride. Kaelu does not appear as eager, but she knows that Kaelu too is proud of them. Someday they will lead the Weyr and make many babies to fill the skies and perhaps, though sad, they will mourn their loss. All of this they will do together as they have done everything together since the moment that Kyrieth chose Kaelu.
Other/Quick Notes:Kyrieth’s name is inspired from Kyriel, the angel of death.
Kaelu is more aggressive and equally defensive and offensive.
Kyrieth, on the other hand, is more defensive, but does have a temper.
