Orelth was a bit prideful.Although he didn't usually let other people's comments bother him,one Rider pair had managed to get under his skin. The pale blue was nearly filled out;his hide rippled with muscle and he had a broad chest. Some admired that, but others doubted his ability in the air. What if he was too heavy to remain in the air? What if he couldn't get off the ground. The pastel dragon tried to brush off their comments, but the only reason why he couldn't was because a green had overheard.Yes, a potential mate had heard that blasphemous rubbish and now he was going to prove that wrong!
Even though the snow whipped around their heads, he had insisted to his lazy rider that they get in some practice.Lessons had been delayed due to the unruly weather, so most Weyrlings were sitting warm and snug in their rooms. If they practiced during this bitter winter, surly they would be ahead of their group? Then Orelth would show those bronzes and browns what was what!
He glanced back with a gem-like eye and watched his rider tug on the straps of their stiff leather gear.He was rather clumsier than usual, due to his thick gloves. Finally done with securing the heavy firestone sacks, he swung onto his mount with surprising grace and settled himself in, strapping his legs tightly onto the harness. He patted his almost mature blue on the neck, giving him the go ahead.Orelth flexed his mighty muscles and took two lumbering strides.Instead of leaping off his ledge like the lazy dragon he was,he pushed off from the gorund, steadily gaining height. He could feel the worry of M'kal as his wings strained to lift his bulk.
