M'kal peeked into the communal bathing room and a sigh of relief left him. Finally! The coast was clear! Just in case someone should burst in (highly unlikely since it was the middle of the night),his towel was wrapped firmly around his waist.Bright eyes glancing both ways,he slipped his towel off with the speed of a professional pleasure woman and slipped into the pool. The warm water surrounded the brunette, and tucked him into a cocoon of warmth and relaxation.Free time was a gift to one rearing and caring for a weyrling dragon, even one as laid back as his Orelth. The dragon was getting so much bigger and it seemed like more of his hide was available for scrubbing with each day! His face stretched into a grin as he thought about his developing dragon. The pastel blue was beginning to fill out and was as muscled as a bronze! He had become so clumsy around greens and self conscious. But Orelth had a calming affect on his nestmates, and it helped move their classes at a rapid pace. Lost in thought,he did not notice another slip into the cave and begin undressing.M'kal was submerged so that only his eyes and nose were visible above the steamy water. It would be quite a shock for both of them when the stranger joined the boy in the pool...

((Rolled for it. You get Trevan.))
Trevan was tired. It wasn't that candidates were worked that hard; they weren't. It wasn't that he'd had any particularly tasking chores that day; he hadn't. It wasn't even that he'd been terribly busy outside of normal candidate duties; he hadn't.
He had, however, gotten into another fight with Kalley, and, as she had taken to doing recently, Kirnin had not bothered to intervene. It was beginning to seem to Trevan that, ever since that silly flit had come into her life, she'd had no time to bother with them, and for him, that was very, very bad. He had thought the argument today was going to come to blows, and could only presume that it was sheer good fortune that had seen them both too busy to continue the fight. Still, he was more than marginally concerned by it, which was a rare occurrence for the boy, and so, as he slipped quietly into the bathing room, stripping to his skin, he was absolutely oblivious to the world around him.
'At this rate, fist's'll fly before we even get to see the eggs hatch,' he thought glumly to himself. 'Just imagine how I'll look if I get a broken nose or something!' The thought made him faintly queasy, and he shook his head, moving to the closest pool -- M'kal's -- and sliding in with a boneless grace and an annoyed sigh, eyes closing before he was even halfway submerged. 'Stupid prat,' he thought darkly to himself.

The little waves caused by Trevan's entrance sloshed over M'kal's nose and he sat up suddenly in the steaming water, coughing and spluttering. He smacked his chest a couple of times in a weak attempt to stop his hacking and hot water splashed everywhere. When the cough subsided, the boy turned to glare at the intruder. His one chance to relax and take take a break and now he had water up his nose! The brunette hated that feeling! His eyes were icy chips as he regarded the other boy,but his contemptuous gaze softened as he noticed a tenseness in the young boy. Instead of demanding an apology, he awkwardly asked "Rough day?"

Trevan nearly jumped out of his skin when M'kal sputtered. "Oh, shards, I'm sorry! I didn't think there was anyone else in here! I'm not intruding, am I? I can go, if I am." He held up a hand anxiously, as if to forestall complaint.
"Sorry," he repeated. "Yeah, a bit. A... fight with my brother." He paused, then amended, "Half brother. We do it all the time. Argue, I mean. I seem to be his favourite complaint. I don't know. Uh... sorry. I didn't mean to intrude on your bath. I especially didn't mean to intrude and dump a string of complaints on you. That's hardly fair, isn't it? I should... probably let you get back to your bath, shouldn't I? Did you want me to go? I don't want to be a bother."
Strangely, despite the sound of it, Trevan wasn't really babbling. Or at least, he wasn't really babbling any more than normal. The boy was just... exceedingly social. Silence did not come naturally to him, in any way.

His gaze softened as the boy spilled his troubles. M'kal shook his head at the boy's insistence to leave and waved a hand,as if to shoo the questions away. " No,no.I instigated the conversation and the accident.I was kind of hiding out here.It seems like your brother is...Jealous of you? are you a candidate?"
The steam rose up around the the other boy and M'kal realized how young the boy next to him was.though the lad was by far taller than M'kal,he had an aura of youth and naivete about him.The brunette had the sudden urge to grab the boy and hoard, protect. His ice-blue eyes flashed with alarm at this fierce reaction and his face turned a tad pinker than before.
suddenly glad of the steam masking his redness,M'kal glanced down at the water before him. What had spurred this line of thinking? What was wrong with him? His question was soon answered by a drawling voice. Mine, you are as protective as a mother Gold.Behave yourself. You are Mine and only mine.No one else is to have your sympathy and kindness.
There was a savage quality underlaying Orelth phrase and the poor rider was bewildered. This was why weyrlings were kept separate? Because of jealous Hatchlings!? M'kal almost started cracking up then and there. The notion that his dragon's emotions could influence his thoughts and actions was quite frightening.

"Mhm," Trevan agreed, sighing airily and blowing the steam. "We both are. So's our sister, Kirnin. I don't think Kalley's jealous, though. Well. Maybe. Seems more like he just hates me, though. He's always got somethin' bad to say about me, and everything's always my fault. Only one who can ever talk him down about it is Kirnin. He'll do anything to keep her happy. It's pathetic. 'Least she only really uses it to get 'im off me, though." He whuffed, sinking down into the water.
Frankly, Kalley's attitude annoyed him. He hoped they'd sort it out after the hatching. He just wanted to be left to his indulgences. It wasn't fair that he couldn't be, all because Kalley had to have his stupid obsessive work ethic. Just because KALLEY was a workaholic didn't mean he needed to be, after all. Life was too short for that kind of attitude.

"Hmn."
M'kal really didn't know what to say.His knowledge on this conflict was limited,so he couldn't really offer good advice. He tried anyway.
"It's hard to believe that family can hate one another.Maybe he just wants you to try your best? Work hard and succeed. Fighting isn't really good for a family, think of your poor sister having to mediate those arguments."
The seventeen year old hoped that he didn't offend the boy.He was so handsome. It would be a shame if he never saw that face again...

"Well... technically," Trevan admitted, "he's only my half brother. His mom married my dad after her first husband died. I think Kirnin said it was a shipwreck or something? I don't know. Anyway, maybe, but he generally seems mad when I do something right, so I kinda doubt it." He shrugged, splashing a bit of water idly toward the other side of the pool. "Maybe."
Frankly, he just wanted the hatching to be over. Then, he'd have a dragon and Kalley wouldn't be his problem anymore. Or maybe he wouldn't, but that'd be fine, too. Then he could go away and Kalley could stay here and Trev would be able to have his life back, but without Kalley's pushy, bad attitude. That'd be good enough for him.
