~This is a NPC flitt flight. It's open for any Northern Flitt to fly in. Flitts Only~
Chirp, CHirp, CHIrp, CHIRp, CHIRP. "Tashi will you be quiet!", the headcook turned to her gold flitt waving a wooden spoon threateningly at the gold. Tashi gave a sullen chirp in answer but before the cook could glare her back into silence, the gold flitt zoomed across the room, landing on a chunk of meat and tearing off a long strip. "Tashi you little snake, get off that, Ooooo", the cook suddenly went silent as Tashi stared to glow a brilliant bright gold.
Tashi gave her person an imperious little chirp and zoomed off and out the kitchen window into the Northern skies. Though her trumpeting bugle was nowhere near as loud as a dragon's, even the new ones, nevertheless it was loud enough to attract attention. A plump brown, belonging to an older kitchen drudge, bugled as he flew after her, "Geri come back here", his person hollered after him, only to find himself ignored.

Mini, a bronze attatched to a visiting Harper, was sunning himself in the sunlight when he heard the bugle of the riding queen. With a matching trumpet of his own, he joined in the chase after her, shooting ahead of the plump geri. It was rare for the Benden flitt to get to chase gold, there were none at Benden college at the moment. The only two attached to Harpers were out traveling with their humans. And greens just weren't fun. They were mean and would make fun of the slightly small bronze. Mini was touchy about his lack of size and the few scars on his body attested to the trials he had fought amonst the various flitts he had encountered.

Little Baby had had his fill of sitting around the Weyrling Barracks. Now that that... big, green... brat!... had entered Kirnin's life, he spent every morning and a good half of every afternoon all alone! She even had the audacity to send him away if he came to see her! It wasn't fair, and the little flit was, in far fewer words (read, none), moping about the injustice of it all when the queen bugled.
Now, Little Baby was young, still, and he'd never been in a flight before, but he had instincts, and he'd had a lot of practice in exercising them, so when that impossibly familiar cry rang out, the brown, who was still just a bit plump around the middle, but now a proficient flier, lifted his head, chirped excitably, and shot directly out of the barracks, after the queen. It was, after all, only fair that something good happen to him!
((Just so it's not all browns chasing...))
Kiri and Sulan had come north almost two decades ago, with a girl who'd impressed accidentally in the southern stands. She was a girl of some estate, and Kiri and Sulan had been her dear, precious breeder pair. When life as a dragonrider had gotten the girl too busy, however, to attend the flitters, their clutches started winding up in forgotten corners of the sands, and their young were born almost exclusively wild.
That was where Brass had come from. Brass was not his name, of course. Strictly speaking, he didn't have one. It would do, however, to fill in. He was a large, sturdy bronze, slow, for a flitter, but strong, too, and he'd never had the chance to chase a gold, before. His mother had been the only gold around when he'd bothered coming by for a very long time, and she'd died almost a decade ago when her Human had gone Between with that big green of hers after a scouting mission down south and never come back out. Silly dragons couldn't dodge anything, not even big old pieces of wood.
Regardless, Brass had been passing through when the queen called out her flight, and, well... what sort of flit would he be, if he didn't participate? Besides, it was only a couple of browns and one bronze, and the browns were both rather pudgy--and the one was downright babyish! He only really had one flit to contend with, anyway, and no flit with a HUMAN would ever have HIS survival instinct! It was no competition at all!

Tashi crowed with delight as flitts came from all over to chase after her. Even a few wild flitts as well if one of the bronzes was any indication. What fun! This was this gold's first flight and it was so much fun. She chortled and cavorted in the air, her shining gold hide a bright contrast against the stark blue of fall.
Geri was huffing and puffing but he was keeping up, he'd never give up not ever. His poor little wings felt like they were falling off but he would catch Tashi, that much he knew. And maybe he would get into shape in the process.

The wild flitt sharply glanced up from his catch at a sound only he could hear. The mighty scarred brown returned to his kill, sucking the blood from his rich fish.Once satisfied,he soared into the sky and blinked Between. The brown, named Longclaw, found himself in a human territory.Shuddering slightly, the brown ignored his fear and dove toward the delicate Queen, bugling a greeting and hovering near, awaiting her Flight into the sky.Longclaw stared imperiously at the other lizards, mere human pets going after such a prize. He would not let any human licking scum catch this Beauty. When she darted off,he wasn't as prepared as he would like and was trailing behind the other males. The enduring and fit wild brown pumped his wings smartly, dipping and diving in a coarse imitation of the lovely gold.

He was a usually quiet and well-hidden blue firelizard. He remembered hatching and scattering off into the forests. If he could, the wild firelizard avoided people at all costs. Today had a bit of an exception. Today there was a gold firelizard and she was rising. That was all the incentive he needed to draw him from the underbrush and into the sky. No, he was not a large bronze, or a sturdy brown, but he was a lean and healthy firelizard. He was not fat and lazy like those attached to their people. So he soared off into the sky and took off after the gold flitter. He had no name, but today he wanted to be called Aeri.

Tashi crowed as even a blue joined in. The gold flitt was enjoying her flight as she soared into the sky. Then she noticed a dragon leaving, or arriving she didn't know nor did she care, and she made for the beast. The faire of flitts right behind her. She dodged at the dragon's face swooping around the immense blue, maybe she'd lost a few of her suitors. Only the best would catch her.
The plump brown was breathing hard as he struggled to fly after Tashi. When she disappeared around the blue dragon though, he just gave up. There was no way he was good enough to keep up with her. With a disappointed chirp the fat brown fell from the sky going back to his person to be cuddled, and maybe he could finagle a plump tart from him.

Dairine blinked as Gigo stirred from his spot in her lap, lifting his head and uttering a soft chirp. The little fire-lizard's eyes were whirling with all sorts of colors, and she just had a moment to wonder what had gotten into him before he leapt upward, scratching her through her pants in the process, and betweened right infront of her nose.
... Ah. A female had gotten his attention. It happened every so often, the brown would go and find himself a female to chase. Dairine shrugged and went back to the piece of leather she was tooling a design in. The females were rarely close enough to cause much discomfort to her, and if he won, well... to be frank, he'd never won. Silently, the red-head made a mental note to get a bowl of especially juicy meat, and maybe a tidbit or two, to comfort him later.
Gigo snorted to himself as he popped into existance at Northern, streaking after the jewel of a tiny queen even as another of his color fell out. Unlike THAT one, he was fit and strong, after a full decade of keeping up with his mistress. He would at least last longer in the chasing.

Little Baby was young, yet. Normally, that would be encouraging for an event like this, but he was not just young, he was young. He was swift, strong, and ... hardly wily. When the gold shot around the dragon, therefore, Little Baby didn't even notice she'd turned until he'd shot a good ways past. Squawking in startlement, he backwinged and twisted, folding himself around to take off after her, but he'd lost precious time in that maneuver, and it was clear to him that he was hurting his own chances. He just hoped the pretty queen wouldn't be mad at him.
Brass was not a fast flit. He knew he was far behind. That was alright, though. Queens weren't in it for speed, they were in it for stamina, and of that, he had much. As the first pursuer fell away, he found himself rewarded. So many browns, and even a nervy blue. It was adorable, how they tried, but none of them would be able to maintain his flight.
When the queen wheeled around the dragon's head, Brass was still far enough back to see what she was doing, and he felt a rush of satisfaction. Her trick was crafty. She was crafty. Almost as crafty as him. She was worth catching. Theirs would be a strong clutch, deserving of survival. Tilting his wings, he dodged around the dragon's head to the other side, giving himself a better vantage for his suit.

Mini yelped indignantly has he flew head first into the rider of the dragon. "Shardit bugs", the rider hollered himself, startled by the flitt hitting him. "Go on", he freed Mini's claws from his jerkin and the flitt tumbled off the dragon, chittering angirly to rider and dragon for a moment before zooming after Tashi. He knew she was fading fast, and he had to be close enough to catch her. The wild flitts just wouldn't do, they weren't civilized like he and his. It just wouldn't be right.

The battle wise brown was surprised at the Queen's daring move and crowed in delight. He whipped under the dragon's snout, tail forks tickling the beast's chin.Warbling in delight he steadily closed in on the other flitter. He would show those uppity pets! Only a real firelizard could catch this queen!

The wild flitts appeared to have the advantage and Tashi wasn't complaining as she dashed across the sky. Brass, Mini, Gigo and this strange brown were all good choices. She just couldn't decide which one she wanted but it would have to come soon. She slid back into the bunch snapping at any who tried to reach for as she looked over the assembled male flitts. Brass would make a good sire for her clutch, strong and proud and wild. Mini, while on the small side, had some attitude that boded well for his chances. Gigo, a good brown but Tashi wasn't sure if she wanted brown. And this other brown, he was just as wild as Brass but.... She chirped to her chosen mate and wrapped her neck around his. She couldn't wait to see the babies.
(Still have eggs left)

Mini could have fallen from the sky when Tashi came gliding back to the pack. He did a barrelroll hoping to catch her attention, it failed. She glanced his way for the briefest second before turning to eye the other males. He was down-hearted but still he tried. Then his little heart burst with joy when he felt her silken hide against his and their necks twined about. The tiniest bronze in the Weyr was so happy as he and the queen fell from the sky.

Gigo chirped in disappointment, slowing to a hover before sighing and blinking between back to his. He hadn't been chosen, again. No explination or images were needed as he rejoined his mistress, his body language, whirling eyes, and radiating emotions said it all. Groaning dejectedly, he landed on Dairine's worktable, flopping down on his stomach with his wings still spread, the picture of rejection.
After a moment, the human put her work down and gently scooped her brown into her arms, murmuring comfort as she petted him. Silently, Gigo pushed his head against her neck, cuddling into the affection. Then a piece of offered choice meat caught his attention, and a few moments later he had forgotten all about the chase, too caught up in his nice little snack.
Dairine smiled and dropped a kiss to the top of her beloved fire-lizard's head. He'd be just fine, as usual. Thank Faranth for short memories.
