Oridale didn’t think much about the clutch after she was Searched. The master in charge of the infirmary, seemingly irritated that his new female journeyman had potentially been poached away so soon, kept her hopping. Duty shifts, tedious errands, and herb-gathering expeditions with the other young journeymen and apprentices (with dragonrider transport and guard, naturally) filled her time from dawn until she dropped gratefully into her bed at night.
She was almost certain, watching a patrol head out a few days later, that Impression would be a good break after this. One young dragon couldn’t be all that hard to care for. But, then again, she understood that the newest healers were always run the most ragged. If she survived, she’d eventually join the time-honored tradition by running her own bunch of apprentices ragged. Or be minding her own children by that point.
“Impressive, aren’t they?” She commented aloud, to anyone in the vicinity. “Hopefully, they’ll come back the same way.” While the dragons weren’t her concern, their riders were- and she’d been taught that even the most routine patrol could result in enemy encounters and injuries.
