Twenty-one eggs and already more than twenty candidates, not even the girls for the gold egg assembled. Daevon knew that the odds of impressing were going to be somewhat slim. And what dragon would want him? He who had not lived among dragons, but herdbeasts and ovines. What was it that Y'mer's green had seen in him? Was it the virtue and honor of the herder that was in him? Something that could so easily be transferred to the realm of the dragonrider.
"Lord... Lidal?" Daevon said it slowly, the question ringing in his voice. He was a little confused by what Y'mer was saying. Why would Lord Lidal want to influence the girls?
There was so much he wasn't going to understand. There was so much he would have to learn that he could have if he had ever shone an interest. Daevon could feel in on the inside that others would down on him and think him unintelligent, maybe even stupid. There would be no way for him to prove them wrong except to do his best to keep up with them. He decided that he would dedicate as much of his spare time as he could to learning. He would work earnestly towards discovering the Weyr and the rules that he did not yet know and the places that were contained within the stone walls.
"Thank you, fer helpin' me." Daevon told Y'mer and then he added, " and for searchin' me."

Y'mer shrugged, ducking through an open doorway, "It's not a problem. Shavi and I are just one more green on a patrol wing but we are one of the few successful Searchers in the Weyr, so it's are little talent", he tried to wave off the thanks. "And as for Searching you, it's what we do. And hey, Searching you was the easy part. Now you've got to go and Impress a dragon, that's the hard part", he added as he walked across the large dining cavern. "Here's the headwoman now", he waved over a plump woman. "Here's another one for you. Daevon I leave you in capable hands", with that he shook the younger man's hand and left, whistling a popular tune under his breathe.

He tilted his head to one side. Wasn't the whole impressing business mostly done by the dragon or something like that? If not then Weyr's wouldn't bring in so many candidates. Daevon didn't completely understood, but he was thinking that maybe what Y'mer was trying to say was good luck. From what he had seen of the greenrider, it seemed like he didn't go right out and say things directly. So with that in mind he just smiled and gave a nod as he shook Y'mer's head and looked to the headwoman.
"Right, this is home now." Daevon said.
