Name: R'ker (Ryker)
Rank: Weyrling
Age: 18 Turns
Gender: Male
Sexual Preference: Heterosexual
Wing:
Give Us A Portrait
Appearance: Standing at a height of 5’11, Ryker can be intimidating, even though he is certainly not the tallest of people. His build suggests that he was never a gangly youth, which is a factor that adds to his overall appearance. He always holds himself up straight (he practically refuses to slouch), almost proudly, implying that he knows that life is a privilege and it is one that should be taken seriously. Based solely on the way that he presents himself when he is around his any of his superiors, it is very obvious that Ryker is very respectful.
Ryker has been graced with a nice smile and hazel eyes, making him charming when he is at his best. He has an almost square-like face, which is framed by his messily cut dark brown hair. He used to keep his hair in a long ponytail at one point, but he cut it off once he was Searched. The thought of having long hair suddenly seemed silly to him, especially if he was lucky enough to Impress and become part of a fighting wing.
Life back at the cothold had done wonders for Ryker. He has tanned skin from being out in the sun, and is slightly muscled thanks to his work out on the fields. He is often seen wearing dark colored tunics, and it is generally believed that he does not own any in vibrant colors. He has never been one to care for how he looked, although being at the Weyr has made him want to look presentable, at the very least.
Personality:
Quite independent and capable of working things out by himself, Ryker is able to survive a secluded life. He is a realist; he knows that people come and go, and that dreams are for silly people who have nothing more to do with life. He never once considered being a dragonrider, but as soon as he was brought to Weyr, he suddenly realized that his life was so dull; he was missing out on something.
Silent and composed, Ryker is not the type of person who will speak before thinking. Although when push comes to shove, he will act before even considering the consequences. He can be reckless, but he is careful when putting his own neck on the line. No matter what happens, he wants to be sure that he, and whoever else he happens to be with, can come back alive and kicking.
Ryker is the type of person who can give out an outward appearance of being highly tolerant; he is patient, seemingly good with slow learners, and is able to slow down a quick pace for the sake of others. Although he has these qualities—ones that many would believe would belong to a good teacher—Ryker can be easily annoyed and irritated. Anyone could have the ability to make him angry and never know it. He believes that keeping emotions to yourself happens to be the easiest way to get past dealing with people.
At one point, he had taken to keeping himself away from others. By doing so, he believed that he could keep himself from the people who would associate with others for the sake of boosting their own rank. He is slowly coming to realize that life, while it is fragile and easily destroyed by people, can not be lived completely alone. Now, although he may wish to get away from the people for a moment of solitude, he has been seen smiling and laughing much more often.
History: As the firstborn male child of Galron and Eleora, Ryker was expected to do great things, including taking over the family cothold when the time was right. When Levona was born (at the time, Ryker was three turns old), Eleora had a new child to devote her attention to, and she soon let Galron have his way with the boy. At the age of five, Galron expected Ryker to be out in the fields with him, learning the “family trade”. Ryker, since he loved his father and the cothold at the time, had went outside without a complaint and helped whenever possible. It was his duty, and he would live up to it proudly.
By the time he had turned seven, and the twins were born, Ryker had become an extension to the field, but he slowly grew to hate it. Levona, now four, would soon learn what it meant to be a Lady Holder. Ryker did not like that his young sister would learn such things, but his opinion was never valid in the cothold.
As Ryker grew stronger and responsible, Galron grew lazier. Galron took pride in being called a Holder although he did no work out on the fields, expecting his eldest son to manage the cothold’s affairs. Ryker, not wanting to leave his family to starve thanks to his father, had risen up to the task. He went above and beyond; he planted many things that his Galron never approved of in order to trade, and made sure that every acre of land was used and not wasted. It was a daunting task, but it was one that Ryker expected no thanks for. Eleora often gushed out her praise, and would tell Lachlan and Declan that they needed to “be just like Ryker” once they grew up.
As the twins grew older, they expressed interest in the dragonriders when they spotted one in the sky while they worked. They refused to speak about anything but the rider, and had often skewered the story in order to make it sound more and more interesting. “It was a bronze!” Ryker remembered Lachlan telling him as the younger boy stood on his tip-toes and spread his arms out, “he was this big!” Eleora did not like the fact that her twin boys, now eleven turns old, showed any interest in wanting to be dragonriders. She hatched a quick scheme: she would show the boys how interesting life on the cothold could be. To her immense surprise, they were fickle and switched plans as soon as she began to have her daily “meetings” (Ryker believed it to be the daily spoiling) and soon dragged her two eldest children into the mix. It was Eleora’s mission to have Ryker find a wife, now that he was eighteen turns old, and made it a point to describe every beautiful girl in the area.
Ryker, growing more annoyed daily, attempted to block himself off from his mother—there was no way that he would have anything to do with any of the women around the area. They were interested in status and money, and he had neither. Yet his mother would not listen to him; she believed him to be “quite a catch” since the day he had taken control of the cothold and thought that all of the girls would swoon over him. He promptly began ignoring the woman, quickly learning the power of body language and when the appropriate times to respond with a few words would be.
Just as Ryker began to believe that he would be stuck on the cothold for the rest of his miserable life, a Searchrider came. Although Ryker had never before entertained the idea that he could be a dragonrider, he accepted the decision of the Searchrider without a second thought.
-Parents:
Galron - 43 turns - Holder of a Farming Cothold
Eleora – 39 turns
-Siblings:
Levona, 15 turns
Lachlan, 11 turns
Declan, 11 turns
-Firelizards:
Name: Onith, A87830
Color: Bronze
Appearance: Onith is a brownish, almost coppery bronze, with a deep, rich tone, almost as though he was recently polished. Along the edges of his wings, it darkes considerably and developes a distinctly green kiss, like tarnish. He is just barely on the large end, as bronzes go, and is of a stockier build, with a sturdy neck and broad tail. His wings seem almost too small to lift him, but they do manage to do the job nicely, in practice. His bulk consists of raw muscle, making the dragon a very sturdy, strong example of his subtype.
Personality: Onith is a very patient dragon. He will wait quietly for the end of time, if he needs to, to accomplish what he wants. However, he will not wait for ten seconds to leap to the defense of anything or anyone he considers to be his. When not waiting or defending, so, most of the time, Onith prefers to spend most of his time sharing, very vocally, with those around him. The dragon is social, outgoing, and downright chatty.
