Will a chill of frost in the air, no one objected to having the Kitchens done up for the Hatching Feast. Northern had never gotten a formal dining cavern with the cold winters no had wanted to seperate kitchen from dining room. The cooking hearths took up one entire wall, serving to heat the cavern. Tables were set in rows near the other wall creating a large space between heart and table for the kitchen workers to cook. Today Ilayria had ordered that the tables be arranged to allow for a dance floor. Even though she hadn't made an appearance yet, the cavern was quickly filling.
Riders with ties to Benden and Tillek had been sent to gather skins of wine, while those with ties to Igen had brought back superbly bred hearbeasts for eating. Food made large piles on the various buffet tables that were also heaped with plates and silverware. Skins of wine and redfruit juice awaited being served as drudges went about covering tables with scarlet clothes. The best Harpers from Benden had been ferried in and were currently eating before they were to go about performing.
The Weyrleader's table was set up on its dais overlooking the cavern, with warm candles to light it. Everywhere else was lit by warm glows stuck in glass lanterns that brightened the room considerably. It had a very festive air about the whole thing and should be quite enjoyable.

Although the blue had wanted to share in the festivities, Orelth had fallen asleep in the weyrling barracks as soon as he'd gotten there.M'kal was both amused and horrified by how much and how fast the hatchling had eaten. The boy's pale eyes lit up at the thought of his partener, his beloved Orelth. He didn't think he'd ever need another friend for the rest of his life.Though the dragon had Impressed him less than an hour ago, he felt like they knew each other intimately,as if they'd know each other since the beginning of time. When he reached the the kitchen-dining room combo, he stopped and admired the feast lain out. There was space for dancing and he shuddered at the thought.Such an unmanly activity, but endured to please the fairer sex...He noticed that the WeyrLeader and WeyrWoman had yet to arrive and he hesitated.Should he go in,even though few people had arrived? Hovering about the entryway,he debated whether to go inside or not.

As it were, Crescentia was seriously considering skipping the feast. She hadn’t Impressed, not that she was upset about it since there was another clutch on the way (hopefully) with a Queen egg to boot. She still had plenty of time to Impress, too, so that wasn’t a worry. It just seemed rather pointless to get dolled up just to eat and try to impress people who weren’t worth impressing, at least not yet. Then again, to skip the feast could be interpreted as disrespect or maybe even that she was sore about not Impressing. Faranth, people around here made decision making so difficult…
She twirled in front of the looking metal, her robe still on and her frown still in place. Should she go? SHOULDN’T she go? “I suppose it’s only polite…” She told herself sullenly as she knelt down in front of her trunk to dig out her gather dress. It was only her second best one, but still gorgeous all the same. She pulled it on with some struggling, owing to the multiple layers involved in the gown, but it looked stunning on her. It hung right down to her ankles, hugging every dip and curve of her body. It was a sort of coppery bronze color that gave her skin a bit more color than something of a paler shade would. She played with her hair a little, tying it up in a partial knot a few different ways before she was satisfied with the results. Well, it was better than nothing, right?
Slipping on a pair of beaded sandals, she slipped out of the barracks and down to the kitchens where it would most certainly be a hundred times warmer than it was in the rest of the Weyr, not that it bothered her much, being from Telgar and all. She was a bit disappointed to find that few of the Weyrlings had shown up yet, and those that had she didn’t know. That was most certainly a drag, but they’d be here soon enough. The way to a man’s heart was his stomach, after all, so they’d all be here eventually.

T'san eventually managed to tear his eyes away from his sleeping bronze, though he kept sneaking looks at the dragon as he got ready for the hatching feast. And he'd certainly never had anything bigger to celebrate in his life than this! Rywysth was incredible- better than he'd ever imagined.
The young man walked into the feast with a bounce in his step and a smile on his face. He couldn't wait to talk about his dragon to anyone who'd listen. Not even that silly girl -who had failed to Impress, he wasn't surprised to notice- could bring him down today. He stopped short beside the other new weyrling in the doorway, giving him a grin. "Whatcha doing? You're not going to miss your own party, are you? Or were you waiting for somebody?"

M'kal let loose a very undignified yelp and whipped around.Catching his breath,he smiled at the other boy, taking in his formal attire. "Of course not! I was just waiting for more people to show. You know, a friendly face or two." M'kal tried to remember the boy's name, but failed. He was so bad with names...At least he remembered what color the guy had Impressed. And he had a subtle way to find out the lad's name. "So, congrats! You Impressed bronze, didn't you? What's your new name? Mine's M'kal now.M'kal of blue Orelth..." The boys eyes glazed over and his voice grew soft at the mention of his dragon. He snapped out of it quickly though, and grew embarrassed.Red around the ears,he awaited a reply.

Crescentia rolled her eyes as T’san entered. Boy, was he going to be a pain for anyone to deal with. He was probably already gloating over the fact that she hadn’t Impressed, but that was to be expected. Most Bronzeriders didn’t have two braincells to rub together let alone think with. They had no DEPTH to them. He was talking to another Weyrling, though she couldn’t remember off the top of her head what he’d Impressed. He seemed REALLY happy about it, though.
She couldn’t help but laugh at M’kal, but it was a good natured laugh, nothing like the usual scathing laughs she gave out. “M’kal, eh?” She asked as she approached the pair, ignoring T’san completely. “Of Orelth? Isn’t he the one with the very light blue hide? He’s gorgeous.” She told him kindly, trying not to laugh at his blush. It was just so funny, though! “You shouldn’t be embarrassed, I’m sure having a dragon is wonderful.” She added, waiting to hear what T’san was sure to reply with. She had a feeling that they were going to be at odds with each other for quite a while.

Had the girl's mother never taught her manners? T'san glared at her for interrupting a conversation, and overriding the start of his reply to M'kal. She seemed determined to torment him for some reason, ever though, the day he'd met her, he'd only told her the same thing Tyirel had. Story of his life, that.
He could feel Ryswyth begin to rouse, querying his sudden rage in a sleepy tone. T'san forced himself to calm for his dragon's sake and smiled at M'kal, ignoring Cresce in return- it had worked so well before. "I chose T'san. Ryswyth approved. They're really great, aren't they?" He asked the blue weyrling, taking on an expression similar to M'kal's as he spoke about his dragon. "You don't realize how much you've always needed them until you've Impressed."

Feeling quite foolish about his unmanly display, M'kal reddened even more when the girl laughed at him.But it didn't sound malicious at all, so he smiled tentatively at her. When she complimented his dragon, the blue rider's chest seemed to puff out with pride. He remembered her from the Candidates confinement to the barracks during the queen's Flight. She and T'san still seemed prickly around each other.M'kal shuffled his feet as he was caught in between their tension. He really had no quarrel with the girl. She just seemed to have more spine and was out spoken.Though he considered her actions during the Flight foolish,he could understand her boredom while confined. The weyrling didn't really take a side and just replied to both of their comments,as they were very similar. While his deep tenor rang in the cavern,he smiled subtly at the expression on bronze weyrling T'san's face as he spoke of the Bond. "Yeah, its like finding a piece of yourself that you have never known was missing and you wonder how you've ever lived without it." Realizing how soft and mushy he sounded he scrubbed his face with both hands to hide his flaming face.Gosh he sounded like such a sap today!

Lianne smiled to herself as she got ready for the feast. She always liked meeting new riders, it was interesting to see what kind of people had imprinted and what dragon they imprinted on. Lianne was a curious woman, and she had to meet the new riders instead of hear about them. Besides, what else did she have to do? She didn't have a lot of dresses, but one she usually wore to feasts, was the one she'd wear today. Originally, the dress had been a bland brown color, and had not looked good on her, especially with her contradicting eyes. So, Lianne had dyed it a nice shade of blue, in honor of her sweet dragon.
Now, as she put her hair up, Zamoth chose to come in, after having gorged himself on several sheep. Hurry up or you'll miss the feast. Lianne stuck out her tongue at the dragon, in a silly childish way. That was how she and her dragon got along, by teasing each other. Of course, they did love each other, they just showed it differently from most riders. "I'm going I'm going." Lianne muttered, stroking her dragon's neck for a moment, before she turned and left the room. Zamoth was pretty full with his own meal, and that was making him drowsy. Still, he had time to comment on her dress choice. It suits you. Have fun at the feast, and get to know more people. And now, I say goodnight.
Lianne walked hurriedly towards the feast, perfectly happy. A gathering like this was usually a great thing, so many happy weyrlings, new dragons, and just something that brought everyone together. She caught sight of a group of people outside the area of the feast and it made her curious. The brunette sighed, she really shouldn't intrude on their conversation, but she wanted to meet new riders, and perhaps make a few more friends. "Congratulations. Was the imprinting as good as I remember? I couldn't watch, my dragon was feeling a bit moody, so we flew for a while." Not that she needed to explain herself, but it was why she had no idea who had a dragon now and who didn't, and it confused her. And confusion was something Lianne disliked almost as much as the poor place she had once lived in.

((Ack, I know.FAIL post, but I wanted to move this along.)) "Yes!" M'kal gushed at the woman, his eyes and tone of voice saying all.Face growing hotter,he asked "Oh,I'm M'kal of blue Orelth." The youth said, trying to recover from this bout of unmanliness."Nice to meet you! What's your name?" He took in her dress and noted that is fit her well and was a very pretty color, blue, his new favorite. He grinned rather stupidly as he realized that this wasn't a dream and that he had indeed Impressed a dragon.
