Season:Summer Weather: Summer has come to Northern Weyr and with it a relief from the icy cold of the harsh winter. Fields have been plowed and stock tended to as time marches towards the fall.
Expectations: With Astoth not due to fly for another turn, and Basteth not due for two turns, the Weyr looks to try and keep their advantage over Southern.
Season:Winter Weather: With the advance of the southern winter comes the hurricanes that are expected. It seems the weather is being nice in that no storms have threatened the Weyr just yet.
Expectations: The eggs harden nicely on the sands and rumor has it they could hatch any day now.

Anticipation was a wondrous thing. It was frightening and exciting all in one emotion. It was almost strong enough to shake the actions of a single person. Roslynn had felt such emotion and fought back to control it and maintain composure since the clutching, through the touching, and now here at the hatching. With another green on the sands, she was indeed scared that she might fail, but failure was not an option. Yet she was also terribly excited, looking forward to the point in time in which she might find her true future, the one she had been hoping for. It came together in the short moment it took for the quietly, subtly moving golden egg to shatter yielding not only all attention, but nearly the entire sands to be her stage and hers alone, with the exception of a bronze and a green.
Roslynn's heart leapt and she felt her heart thrum against her chest like it had no other time. She was gorgeous, perfect, amazing, so many things came to mind. She forgot all about teas and salves in that moment and all she could think was 'Please. Please see me here. Please.' She was almost breathless as she stood frozen still watching her. This was it. Her moment of truth. Roslynn knew she was not the only girl still standing, Dairine from the North who hated being here was standing. Surely her potential could be seen amongst them even though her shoulders shook and her mouth was dry and body quietly tense.

"That was fast." Daevon was lost in surprised. Five dragons that had been sitting about the sands or just plain wandering about suddenly decided that it was time to get down to business. Eggs were cracking and shattering and breaking open all over and he couldn't see what was different. Well, no, there was another difference. The gold egg was broken into shards and in it's place stood a little miniature Isiloth. He blinked at her and thought suddenly that she was awfully pretty. Huh, funny wasn't it.
And she was not alone. The latest green to hatch sat there still and one bronze appeared undecisive. Pretty good odds out there. And of the eggs remaining, well, one of them could be his if those already hatched were not. There were how many? Seven it looked like. There were more candidates than that, but he knew one thing for sure, if he impressed or not, getting home would be pretty hard.

Dairine was starting to feel like a spectator at a sporting match, her head was going back and forth as she watched hatchlings crack shell and then find Theirs. Silently, she admitted that Isiloth and Hatath DID have a reason to be proud... but that didn't mean she was going to get along with them anytime soon. She hadn't forgotten their threat to eat her, even if she doubted that they would actually go THROUGH with it.
Finally she spotted her one friend at the Weyr join the rest of the riders, and had only a moment to wonder why he was late before spotting the slip of a girl beside him. An eyebrow rose in curiousity, and for once she wished that she could ask Jhamith, mind to mind, what V'ran had up his sleeve THIS time.
A shattering sound came from far closer than the other eggs, and Dairine turned just in time to see the queen egg split apart in a truely spectacular fashion, bits of shell flying far enough to even smack lightly against the redhead. She ignored the sting though, instead giving the newly hatched queen a quiet look for a moment before going back to watching the other youngsters find their bondeds. She fully expected Roslynn to be chosen, though she kept her head turned enough to watch the gold hatchling out of the corner of her eye, so that she would be able to get out of the way fast enough should the newborn be in a foul mood.

As M'tur continued to walk with his blue Lianth, some guy would come up to him with some meat in a bin. M'tur wasn't sure what to do, so he took it. After about three seconds M'tur understood what it was for. "Oh.. I knew that.." M'tur spoke to himself lightly. "Well, I guess this is for you Lianth. Now you get to it. You eat first and concentrate on not choking or anything and then we can talk. Sound good?" M'tur wouldn't really wait for an answer as he began taking out pieces of meet to feed his wonderful Blue. As Lianth finished one piece M'tur would have another piece ready for him.
While Lianth ate M'tur would take some time every now and then to look toward the remaining eggs. When he did look though all he saw was one green, one bronze, and the gold. It seemed they all had left except for the one bronze and the other two on the sands had just hatched. M'tur would take a second to look at Roslynn after he really noticed that the gold was out. M'tur knew that she was excited, and he hoped that she got it too. After that his attention would return to his Blue as he fed Lianth another piece of meat and got another piece ready. ---------------------------------------
As B'ral walked with Ouleth he would hear a sound. Turning around he would see that the gold had hatched and from there a majority of the dragons that had been on the sands would impress. After that another green would hatch. All that was left now was a bronze, a green, and the gold, as well as the seven unhatched eggs. B'ral wondered who would get the gold.
His attention would snap back once a drudge came up to him with a bin of meat. With a nod B'ral would take the bin and walk a little further before he turned to his Bronze. "First you eat, gain your energy, and then we can talk. We have much to converse about Ouleth." With that the first piece of meat would be taken out and handed to Ouleth. "Don't eat too fast..." B'ral watched as the bronze ate, and every so often he would look up at the golden hatchling, and return back to give Ouleth another piece of meat.

The young queen lifted herself airily and moved to circle the only two female candidates left on the sand slowly, giving them both a long, thorough inspection as she walked. She was still too young to walk steadily, but she managed well enough, considering, and paused more than once to consider some minor detail or other before stopping directly in front of the pair and sitting down to stare contemplatively.
While she was going through this process, two more blues and another green worked their way out of their shells. Both of the greens on the sands then made their way, first the one, and then the other, to their respective candidates, while the first of the blues to hatch sat down and stared about in almost hopeless confusion. Where was His? Shouldn't there be a Mine here for him...? The younger blue nudged him lightly, encouragingly, but didn't linger for long before making his way after his sisters, toward the boys.
:D'vonmine? Your Evyth's brother does not know where His is. Are all the Mines here? They're even more important than food -- and food is very important. ...Your Evyth is hungry, D'vonmine,: the blue sent, rubbing his head along his chosen rider's side. His mindvoice was serious and concerned.
Evyth
Color: Blue (206B65 - 010A09) Egg: Heavy Water Impressed to:D'von
Appearance: Evyth is a bright, tealy blue, and, were he small, that might be something of a problem for him, but he is most decidedly large, especially for a blue, and it seems unlikely that there will ever be any confusion as to his color. His hide darkens as it travels further from his snout, until, by the end of his tail, it is very nearly black, like the shades of a lake darkening as one swims deeper into the water. Strong, elegant, and handsome, Evyth is indeed a lovely sight to see. Personality:Quiet, somber, and sensible, Evyth is a sweet dragon, kind-hearted and empathetic. He is loyal to a fault, faithful, devoted, and understanding. Unfortunately, he is also highly forgetful and often distracted, if his attention is not kept on track. He doesn't mind so much, however. What else are Mines for? As long as he can be kept concentrating, he is easily as dependable as any brown.

Wasn't she the little lady. Being logical and sensible, yes, but those girls had to be nervous or at least incredibly interested in her. Daevon didn't think scrutinizing was very polite, sort of an inbetween of rudely staring and unfairly judging. He just sighed and watched the remaining eggs. There was another pair of greens and a blue now on the sands and again they moved. Neither of the greens seemed very interested in him and that was all right in his mind. His mind, strange that he was thinking that at the very moment when his mind was suddenly no longer his anymore. It somehow being their mind.
He began to pay attention at the voice that entered into his thoughts and the blue that approached him. Daevon wasn't Daevon any more, he was D'von. And he was not just himself, but D'von and Evyth. He looked past the caring blue to other one that sat lonely and dejected, lost and confused. He felt the concern from Evyth, the wave of hunger, emotion, and thought. He blinked and slowly absorbed this new change, so much so quickly and though he might have stayed frozen for so long, there was a new strength in it.
Evyth looked up at him waiting for an answer and a desire to satiate his hunger. D'von smiled slowly, the long grin lighting up his eyes and he knelt down to put a big hand on the blue's head. "I'm sure he will find his own, you need only believe in him." D'von assured Evyth with the smile and the warm thought that everyone found their own way both within and outside of themselves. Apparently he had, so why couldn't everyone else? "I'm a bit hungry myself, but what they have over there probably isn't for me, let's go, eh?" He stood back up and taking one step at a time took his first steps as dragonrider to the blue Evyth. One sure footed step at a time.

Levona had been shoveling food into Saeth's mouth when the dragonet suddenly closed her maw, her eyes a gentle swirl as she said, I have been addressed by a Green by the name of Meryldeth. She wishes for us to keep her presence a secret. Levona closed her eyes, attempting to figure out if she even heard of a dragon named Meryldeth before she had decided that she had not. Saeth wasted no time in continuing. She says we are guaranteed safe passage North should we be exiled, but that’s silly. Why would we be kicked out of our own home?
A Northern dragon? Here? Levona desperately wanted to look around, to find the dragon and her rider and thank them for even offering her a safe passage back home. She knew that, if she was forced onto a ship with Saeth, she and the dragonet would have to try their hardest to survive, but they would be safe in the hands of Northern riders. Because we are an unwanted pair, Saeth. Levona said, gently. Thank them for us, okay?
Fine, but I still think that we will not be turned away. Turning her thoughts towards Meryldeth, the dragonet said, I and Mine wish to thank you and Yours. We will be sure to keep this between us. Well, that was definitely one headache solved. But that still didn’t answer the question was to why a Northern dragon was down South.
Saeth suddenly turned her head, towards Isiloth, and Levona was forced to look up at the clutchmother. What could it be this time? Were they kicking her out prematurely? “Shards,” she hissed under her breath, “should we get packing, Saeth?”
No. Saeth said, slightly offended that Hers would even think that they would have to leave. She said that she would eat anyone who would try to make us leave. I told you we wouldn’t be forced to go. As an afterthought, she said, I don't understand why you seem to hate it here. It's nice.
Lips pursed, Levona glanced towards the Queen. Sure, she may have claimed that, but what did that tell her? They weren’t guaranteed safety, even after her threat. Her threat only meant that there were sure to be some who would want them out. “Yeah, well, I’m still keeping an eye out.” She muttered.
---
Lutheryl was just beyond excited to see the eggs hatch and Impress. He watched them go off one by one, though one thing that really caught his interest was the fact that a Green had found Hers with the girls. That certainly wasn’t a good thing, right?
Still, he turned his attention back towards the dragonets, right on time to have all of them walk past him. It was a little disappointing, but he still had a chance! There were still eggs left to hatch, which meant that there would be dragons to Impress!
But then he noticed the Queen egg hatch, and he smiled, remembering the conversation he had with Roslynn when they were in the infirmary. Well, the Queen meant that she had her chance, along with the other girl that she was walking around. Roslynn was determined to get her wish, and Lutheryl was sure that she would be able to get it.
Now all he needed to do was wait for his chance—and his dragon!

The little queen knew exactly what she was doing and though Roslynn was nervous, she held her ground and breathed long and deep. She thought of Isiloth when she first approached her to touch the egg. She thought of how to be proud, strong, and yet still have enough sense to show compassion. She thought of the feel of the egg, the very color, the way the light glinted off the shell. It glinted off of her hide as she walked in a ring around Dairine and herself, the final choices. Roslynn followed her with her eyes and suddenly a certain calmness came over her, like she was standing at the height of some great mountain, the edge of a cliff. Though she was being judged, it reminded her of her father and his evaluations and how if she remained calm and kept her head she always did well. She did well because she would always do well. She would do well even now and the confidence that had been ebbing away before at the sight of gold came flooding back.
Roslynn's stone cold face softened as she looked at the sitting gold and a small smile turned up the corners of her mouth. If she was chosen there was so much she could do. She could go to meetings, develop strategies so that dragons and riders would not be hurt so in battle, new formations for thread, she could calm down dragons in pain or those worried about their riders in the infirmary. She could bring a sense of peace to Pern that hadn't been seen since before her time. The hope flowed through her and the belief that she could do it. Roslynn looked over at Dairine from the corner of her eye and wondered that if Dairine knew why she wanted this, why she believed she could do this so honestly, if she knew the truth, would she understand. Would they perhaps one day be able to become friends? She didn't, that was the truth, but she believed. That was why she looked back at the gold even though her heart raced and her skin was clammy from the heat, and thought she could do this.

The bronze finally grew bored of his game, sauntering away from the eggs and toward the candidates. On his way over, he paused beside one of the more vigorously rocking eggs remaining on the sands, casting a contemplative eye over it before kicking it lightly. As the hatchling within tumbled forth onto the sands, the shards of the egg broken around him, the bronze sauntered along his way to select his from the male candidates.
Dazed only for a moment, the new blue swiftly grew wide-eyed and sat down, staring with obvious awe at the hatching chamber. As his eyes swept over the candidates, he paused, blinking, and his eyes melted into the luminous rainbowing of impression. :Oh, L'rylmine, look at all of this! Isn't it fascinating? Your Dyreth likes this MUCH better than the shell!: For several more moments, the blue stared about himself in wonderment, before leaping up suddenly and trotting over to Lutheryl - L'ryl, now - and adding cheerfully, :Food?:
Even as the blue made his impression, another green broke free of her shell, leaving only two unhatched eggs on the sands, one still shell-shocked green (no pun intended), and the sad, lost blue, who still seemed frightfully confused.
Dyreth
Color: Blue (95ACBF - 5A7184) Egg: Standing Outside The Fire Impressed to: L'ryl
Appearance: Dyreth is a faded blue, paler at his head than his tail, and looks for all the world as though he caught on fire somewhere around his flanks, and it just forgot to turn itself off. Dark whirls and long tongues of color lick up his sides, over his wings, and one even stretches all the way up to splay over his chin. The way they twist together seems to shift when the light catches his hide, making the patterns seem alive, though, of course, they are not. Dyreth runs to the small end, as blues go, though not dramatically so, but, with markings as handsome as his, most greens could hardly care. Personality: Dyreth is a bundle of passion. With a lust for life (and everything else) that is scarcely rivaled in all the Weyr, every waking moment seems to mean something to this blue. The sleeping ones probably do, too, though if that's true, only His knows it. As a hatchling, he's excitable, and whether or not this will fade as he ages is up for debate, but his wish to see everything and anything ... that isn't going anywhere any time soon.

It was a small sort of accomplishment being one of the members of the first weyrling group from the first Southern clutch by Isiloth and Hatath. Granted he hadn't seen himself as a blue dragonrider before, he thought they were a bit too flashy and flambyouant. Now, however, he could not see himself riding any other color. Everytime D'von looked at Evyth and saw the complexity of the coloration of his dragonleather hide, the green hue of pleasure and contentment in his eyes, felt the deep pang of hunger next to his own, or felt the warm feeling of deep devotion he knew that he was meant for this. There was no questioning, no going back. This was his life now and D'von was now pleasantly happy.
"So, how are we doing now Evyth?" D'von asked as he retained his long grin. Though he handled raw meat, he knew that this was what Evyth wanted and no want or need that the blue had would go unmet. Not if he had anything to do about it, it would be put to question on his honor if he did.
I feel a little bit better D'von-mine. Evyth replied happily. He swallowed his meat and looked back from they had come and beyond to where he had come from. But my brother has not found his mine still, he will find him, yes, D'von-mine? Evyth looked up at his chosen and the concern was relayed through their unbreakable connection.
D'von smiled still and remained as he had before, "Surely he will."

Another Green adding herself to the total made the knot tighter, even as the new Queen shattered her shell. Didn't the Queen normally hatch toward the end? There weren't that many hatchlings left, either. They started to scatter as though the Queen had just told them off, leaving only her highness, two Bronzes and a new Green. It made sense in a way that they would be the only ones left standing, the Green more out of ignorance, but he couldn't blame the poor thing. She'd only just broken out of her shell, after all. The Bronzes wouldn't have been paying her much mind yet, he didn't think, just as long as they didn't anger her.
His stomach did a backflip as one of the Bronzes stretched himself and came toward the boys. He was a beauty, as the others had been, but he looked like he'd been digging with his nose in the mud, silly thing.
I think I've done enough, now, F'rirmine. My sister can handle it from here. Feed me, will you? I have been waiting for a very long time, and I am very, very hungry.
The knot snapped as his frown became a smile, then the smile became a wide grin. Well... damn. This was him? His partner? Wow... "Of course I'll feed you, Aeyth. Do you think I'd starve you or something?" He asked with a grin, winking playfully at the hatchling as he knelt next to the Bronze. HIS Bronze. "You see her?" He asked as he looped an arm over the hatchling's shoulder, gesturing at the Queen. "She's going to be ours."
That's nice, Mine. Aeyth yawned widely as he butted against his rider's chest. Will you feed me now?
"You really don't lose sight of your goals, do you?" Fen remarked as he stood up to lead the Bronze off. "The ones concerning your stomach, anyway...
---
They thank us, but... Meryl trailed off, her thoughts troubled.
But?
The decree has just gone out that all pairs will be staying at Southern.
R'nor visibly paled at the thought. "Shardit!" He cursed under his breath, causing Stella to chirp in confusion. "The second the Queen Impresses, we're gone." He told Meryl quietly, looking anxiously at the sands. As unimportant as it seemed, this new development could be devastating for Northern.

The journeywoman, to her credit, didn't jump as the newborn Queen began to circle her and Roslynn. Still, she turned to regard the golden hatchling with a slight amount of annoyance. What was taking her so long? She needed to just go ahead and pick Roslynn so that Dairine could leave. Nice as it was to be able to see the hatching up close (not that she would admit it), even her boots weren't completely protecting her feet anymore, and she was having to shift from one to the other in an effort to cool them. Seriously, how had Siten STOOD it for so long?
Gigo moved from his perch on Dairine's shoulders to cling carefully to her head, leaning down to chirp a greeting to the gold, just as she sat down to further regard the pair of girls. This one was prettiest of all, of course. Though the brown was a little confused as to why no dragon had picked his Mistress yet. Still, he was sure that it wouldn't be long before one of them saw how nice she really was ((*coughcoughcough*))!

The final two eggs cracked, spilling two more greens onto the sands, one of a middling size and the other extremely small, almost as small as the legendary white was said to have been. The larger green scowled at the smaller one, then hastened toward the boys, but the smaller was swifter and closer, and bowled directly into Tidur . :T'durmine? Your Vixtryth is veryvery hungry. Feed her? Please?: she plead as she fell directly into him.
The larger green looked panicked when her smaller sister impressed out, and, with a whimpery, panicked creel, spun around, staring at all of the candidates helplessly.
The older green, who had been on the sands already when the two had hatched, bypassed her, striding unsteadily toward the candidates and rubbing against hers. As quickly as that, her impression was done, and only the lonesome blue, the panicked green, and the queen remained on the sands.
The blue's gaze roved across the candidates worriedly, and he raised himself up, spreading his wings, then stopped, catching sight of something. Rainbows danced through his eyes, and he scrambled over to the stands, nearly falling flat on his face. Wide eyed, the slim girl V'ran had brought in stood and lept the low wall separating the spectators from the sands, landing with a whump! in the sand. The blue scrambled to his feet, staggered over to her, and fell into her, rubbing his head against her and creeling softly. :Daneimine, your Tannath couldn't find you! He was so scaaaaaaaaared!:
V'ran stared down at the blue and the girl and sighed. "Well. So much for that," he muttered. He wasn't sure he'd be able to find another assistant, either. Shards.
Finally, with only the green still on the sands, looking panicked, the gold flicked her tail and stood. :You're going to need a lot of help. Come Dairinemine, and feed your Areuth. This one does not need me as you do.: There was a trace of exasperation in the hatchling's mindvoice as she said this, and though she did not voice it to Hers, she made certain that Roslynn heard her. The girl was not unworthy, and it was all too easy a mistake to make. She stretched, unfurling her wings, and tilted her head imperiously, waiting for her escort.
A quiet panic overtook the last, large green, and, with a whimper, she disappeared, leaving only a stir of sand in her place.
Vixtryth
Color: Green (83C178 - FAFBF9) Egg: The Light of a Fading Star Impressed to: T'dur
Appearance: Vixtryth is extraordinarily small, as greens go, and very slight and wiry. Her hide is a pale jade green, marked along her hindquarters, to the right, with what appears to be a faded, off-white star. Her wings are long and broad, and her tail is slender and whippish. She is delicate and frail in appearance, as few, even among greens, ever are, but it is a deceptive appearance. There is strength in her small, wiry muscles, if there is little endurance. Though not the most graceful of greens, Vixtryth does well for herself, anyhow, and she is extraordinarily swift. Personality: Vixtryth is proud, as are most of Isiloth and Hatath's children, and passionate, as are most greens. A veritable spitfire (in more ways than one), the creature appoints herself well, with a delicate step and a proud inclination of her head. She is also warm, open, and affectionate, which is not common among her siblings. There are few that Vixtryth does not like, and she has a genuinely well-intentioned, heartwarming demeanour.
Areuth
Color: Gold (EFCC22) Egg: All Star Impressed to: Dairine
Appearance: Areuth, like her mother, is small, as golds go, but her hide is brighter and paler, and her build is sleeker and leaner. With a long neck and long tail, she is very whippish in appearance. She holds her chin proudly and arches her neck elegantly. Her build is delicate and feminine, and a pale line runs from the tip of her nose straight down to the end of her tail, a far lighter gold than the rest of her hide. Personality: Areuth is surprisingly calm, for a gold, and relatively sensible. She is not subtle, though she lacks the rudeness of her mother, and is rather fond of flirting, something not often seen in golds. Indeed, Areuth is female, and she both knows and indulges in this fact. There is strength in it, and she knows it and does not hesitate to abuse it. She is very short on patience, and despite her surprising calm, when irritated, she is swift to lash out. When that happens, Faranth protect the victims, because she does not hesitate to draw on her rider's (not inconsiderable) anger. Every now and then, Areuth can display bouts of astonishing empathy.
Tannath
Color: Blue (0052C2 - 00645F) Egg: Irresponsible Impressed to: Danei
Appearance: Tannath is a deep, bright blue along his snout, fading into a faintly greenish tint down to his tail. He is of a middling size, as blues go, and is of no remarkable build at all, save that he runs just a little to the slender side. A dark stripe running from his snout to his tailtip down his back makes him seem longer, though he properly isn't, when actually measured. If not for his unique coloration, there would be absolutely nothing special about this blue's appearance at all. Personality: Tannath is calm to an almost scary degree. Nothing, but nothing, bestirs him from his quietus and contemplation. Somber, sensible, and deeply thoughtful, he is a very reserved, private dragon. He also possesses an abiding love of music, and it is the only thing that stirs him. When he hears music, at his most reserved, he flicks his tail in time with it, and at his least... well, Danei hopes he'll outgrow his least reserved habits before he's very much taller than she is.

Dairine had just turned her head to see the girl that V'ran had brought in Impress a blue. A late Search? Though V'ran seemed exasperated, so maybe it wasn't that at all.
And then, all thoughts of everyone else fled the young woman's mind, her eyes widening as a voice... one that didn't hurt, was oh-so-right, that clicked into place in a spot that she hadn't even realized was empty... slid through her mind.
Slowly, almost creakingly so, she turned, gray eyes meeting whirling green and blue. The hatchling... no, Areuth... was waiting for her. Swallowing, feeling as if something was blocking her throat, Dairine slowly stepped forward, falling to her knees infront of the gold to hug her tightly, even as a pressing lonliness that had been her constant companion throughout her life was finally chased away.
"What TOOK you so long?" She finally choked out, chiding her newborn partner.
~As if you weren't being stubborn about the whole matter, either. Now come on, I am hungry and I wish to get there BEFORE the food is all gone.~ Areuth huffed, tolerating the hug for a moment before pulling away. Affection was fine and all, but they were in public.
"Bossy, bossy." Dairine shook her head and stood, dusting sand off of her knees. She couldn't help but chuckle as Gigo leapt from her head, landing neatly on Areuth's and bugling proudly. He had known his Mistress would do well! He had!
~Mine, what is this... this LUMP, that has attatched itself to my head?~ Areuth tossed said head, trying to dislodge the flitter.
"That's Gigo. He's been around for a lot longer than you have, so learn to tolerate him." Dairine shook her head, silently wondering at how comfortable she already felt, with Areuth at her side. As if nothing could ever hurt her again.
That reminded her... she turned to look towards Siten, even as she started to lead the still slightly wobbly hatchling towards the bowls of meat. "Areuth! Her name is Areuth!" While they would have found out anyways, somehow Dai felt that she owed the Weyrwoman that much at least, for putting up with her.

She had been waiting for this for so long, but when she heard the voice in her mind she found that it was not meant for her. Roslynn looked at Dairine, pain filling her eyes. Six turns she spent wanting this and of all the people to be chosen over her it was someone who didn’t care for it at all. Or so she had put the front that she had. She did not need Areuth and the world crashed around her as she knees shook. To add to it, the last dragon on the sands, the green, had betweened and there were no others on the sands. She was the only girl, the only Southern female candidate and she was left there alone. Her father had said she would fail to impress and she had not wanted to believe it, but he was right. She had indeed failed to impress, not gold not any dragon.
Roslynn hardly cried, but in those moments her face blanched and she squeezed her eyes tightly as she tried to compose herself enough to say to Dairine, “Congratulations, Dairine.” She was not too proud to see that it was a good thing for anyone to impress.
With that said she started off the sands feeling rejected. Everything she had ever believed, what she had lived for, her goal for the past six turns was gone. It felt wasted to her. Her feet felt heavy and she started to quicken her pace until she came in contact with another body, one larger and harder than herself and she looked up to apologize, the tears in her indigo eyes. She looked up and recognized that he was not Southern, he had a gold firelizard and his complexion was like that of the Northerners stolen away. She choked on tears and words as she realized that he was not just a Northerner, surely he was a Northern dragonrider!
“You!” Roslynn choked out, standing between him and the exit as she decided to do what she could for her home. “You’re from the North!” She accused him, so sure that she was right. At this point if she was wrong it did not matter any more. Her life felt like a lie, felt wasted to her and she was deeply hurt. “You’re a Northern dragonrider!”

With the hatching over, R'nor was on the run, figuratively speaking. They had to get out of here before they were caught, but flying out of here would be too obvious. He'd sent Meryl on ahead to go idle in the bowl like she belonged while he walked out. He'd figure out the rest of their escape from there, but for now things were calm. If they looked inconspicuous, they'd make it out without trouble. Stella tail curled nervously around his neck hard enough to choke him. "Calm down, sweet." He told her quietly, soothing her with calming mental images. She gave him some slack, but not much as he tried to skirt the big crowd of people leaving the sands, but his plan of escape wasn't to be.
Meryl, we've been caught, be ready to run.
Alright.
He cursed mentally as he stared the girl down. One of the few reject Queen candidates, he could tell, probably trying to salvage her honor after being considered unworthy to be Hers. With the way she was throwing a fit, there was only one thing left to do. Moving quickly to stand beside her, he drew his dagger and discretely rested the tip at her ribs. "If you scream, I'll kill you now and the North will be here before you can blink." He murmured in her ear, trying to pass the gesture off as a simple attempt at comforting the girl. Without waiting for an answer, he directed her toward the entrance of the Sands and out into the empty hallways of the Weyr, heading toward the bowl.

She locked her jaw down as she stared furiously up at the men, tears still in her eyes from the rejection she had faced. Even with the delicate and subtle pressure of a knife, she stared back at him. He was threatening her and she knew that he could easily kill her. With enough force he'd puncture a lung, cause internal bleeding and though he may be caught, she would die and war would ensue. Dragons and riders would die and blood would run again, hers included. Fury and hate glistened in her indigo eyes before she pursed her lips and whispered in an almost breathless hissed voice as she did as she was told, "You'll be found out whether I'm dead or alive."
She made it to the hall and looked at people who were either rushing to prepare a feast or going to see the new group of weyrlings. Why could they not see it? He was pale, he had a gold firelizard and there were only so many who had one in Southern, and she was wearing the blatantingly obvious candidate whites. They were blind in their euphoria and now she felt that fate was being cruel to her. Roslynn felt the growing of bitterness deep within her as she walked at knife point with tears in the corners of her eyes hidden by strands of golden hair. Maybe in the bowl she could try to get away and raise a proper alarm, a Northern spy was not welcome, they must be planning something against the South and she couldn't allow it. Quickly she began to strategize as she was very good at doing.

Though he looked calm on the outside, R'nor was hardly that. His mind was awhirl, his heart was pounding and Stella's tail was tightening around his throat again. Even Meryl was adgitated, especially because she objected to the whole thing. This went against everything they believed, but this was for the best. If they were found out... Things would excelate beyond anything they could ever imagine. The same thing would happen if the girl died, but that was another story. He nearly sighed in relief as the hallways finally ended and the bowl came into view. He could see Meryl lounging nearby and she nearly leapt up at the sight of Hers. She was able to keep control as she casually sauntered over, looking at the girl skeptcially.
Must we take her? She asked miserably, not even noticing when Stella landed on her head.
If we don't, she'll rat on us. He replied heavily before turning to Roslynn. "I'm afraid you're going to have to sleep for a bit." He told her before lifing a hand to pinch a vital nerve before throwing her over Meryl's shoulders. He climbed up next and they were away, headed back to Northern right after gathering their hidden gear.

Roslynn had the idea of mocking a trip and throwing herself off the crest of the weyrbowl and tumble to the bottom. That would catch attention and she could scream, loudly, that would certain catch someone's ear. It would have worked if only they were closer to the edge, she couldn't force a trip and make it to the edge. She'd have to distract him somehow...
"I'm afraid you're going to have to sleep for a bit."
She turned at him, her brain quickly calculated what he meant. Eyes wide Roslynn knew that no matter how much she hated him or wanted to resist, she would have no chance. The hand that was raised against her struck true and she moaned as her sight went dizzy and dark. In her mind she was screaming and the weyr was preparing to fall down upon the rider and his poor dragon and she would be safe. Roslynn was fighting, kicking, punching, and doing all she could to beat the man away. She was outwitting him, outmanuevering him. In reality she was limp and being carried away and no one noticed in the excitement of the hatching and impending feast. By the time anyone realized she was gone, her belongings all oddly enough still in place and a scroll she'd been studying left open on her cot, it would be too late. Would anyone even care? Would she be missed? She who was the failure?

Tidur was surprised at how quickly the Hatching was occurring. The dragons just seemed to know who their partners were and would wait accordingly for the person to enter the "Grounds. He smiled and clapped for each Candidate who Impressed, but with a wistful expression. Finally, only three greens, a blue, and the Queenling were left. The chestnut haired boy watched anxiously, breath halted as the dragonets barreled towards the Candidates. One green about the size of the legendary Ruth was galloping towards the cluster of boys where Tidur was standing.Surely this fragile looking creature wasn't for him,so he turned his eyes for a second to see the blue. The next moment,he was on his back in the hot sand, breath rushing out of his body.Large, rainbow eyes met his own and he felt a previously unknown void fill up in his mind.A foreign voice,so familiar, yet strange echoed in his head.
T'durmine? Your Vixtryth is very very hungry. Feed her? Please?
The underweight boy's heart seemed to stop for a beat and his stomach filled with butterflies. Was this really happening? Was this precious creature really his!? The green patiently told him yes, that she was real and she was terribly hungry.Would he mind feeding her? Newly named T'dur grinned and scratched the little dragon's eye ridge.
"Of course Vixtryth.Just get off of me and then we can get going."
The pale, jade Green stepped off her rider with as much grace as a newborn could muster (which was little) and nudged her new life partner up.The hand on her headknobs guided her and Vixtryth made to the buckets of meat in quick time.Halfway through her meal however, her eyes turned grey and lifted her head towards the sky, a heart breaking keen erupting from her throat. She felt T'dur wrap his small hands around her neck and mutter soothingly, but she would not end her mourning. After a few minutes, her hunger beat out her death song and she continued her meal.
