 All Star Feast [HATCHING FEAST]
« Thread Started on Jun 28, 2009, 8:40pm »

There had been something like a four hour break between the hatching and the start of the feast, to give everyone plenty of time to do whatever they needed to beforehand. Mostly, it was the newly impressed who needed this time, but with the more-than-eventful hatching, Siten was still out and busy, and V'ran, noting that all the food had been laid out and the guests were starting to filter in, found himself growing concerned. Oh, he wasn't worried about Siten. He didn't know the Weyrwoman on anything like a personal level, but he expected she could take care of herself, and even if she couldn't, it wasn't as though her tardiness was the end of the world by any means. Really, it was rather to be expected. She'd known Roslynn for a fair while, and though he didn't know how well they got along, it had to be a blow, regardless.

No, V'ran's concern was for their new goldrider and their now-absent candidate. The candidate, he didn't know. The new goldrider, however, he did, and as he looked around the budding feast, he felt a growing upwelling of concern for the disaster that could oh-so-easily become of the Weyr if someone wasn't around to keep an eye on her. On some level, he badly, badly wished that Roslynn would have impressed the queen -- she'd probably be better behaved.

Looking deeply pensive, he laced himself near the entrance and watched thoughtfully as feastgoers filtered in, apprehension evident in the tense set of his shoulders.

Thankfully, Dairine hadn't had all that much to move. Granted, she had been rather annoyed by the fact that she DID have to, but between moving her things to the Jr Weyrwoman's weyr, or being seperated from Areuth at night, it was no contest. She would not be away from her partner, it was as simple as that.

Granted, as soon as Areuth's belly had been filled and her baby hide turned gleaming by the application of a coat of oil, the newborn queen had been out like a light on her stone couch, made more comfortable by a large quilt spread across it by one of the drudges. So it was that Dairine had some peace and quiet as she made the three trips to move everything she owned (all of it carried in her arms), and by the time she was finished, she was rather prone to the idea of following Areuth's example and just falling asleep.

Unfortunately, the young woman's stomach picked just that moment to give a large growl. Pausing, the redhead considered her options. By now the hatching feast would likely have started, and people would be thronging the dining cavern. People that would probably want to pester her if she so much as set one foot there.

Right. Kitchens it was.

Resisting the urge to hum a rather catchy tune that popped up in her head, the redhead slunk through the passageways, ducking into corners to avoid people and scurrying from shadow to shadow. It was almost... fun, trying to sneak down without getting caught. Not that she would admit it.

Whatever effort it took to move what little he had was managed entirely in one simple move. D'von just now sat on the precipice of the stone bed leaning over his long bent legs looking kindly at the darkly hued blue dragon. He didn't notice it until they had been among the others who had impressed blue and those who impressed brown just how big Evyth really was. He was truly the largest of his color class, almost reaching into the next color class of brown and it made him smile because not only was it that color which helped him stand out, it was size as well. It made them alike like that and it made D'von happy.

He stroked the smooth, warm hide of Evyth with his large, calloused and scared hands simply smiling. The sight of his sleeping bondmate was calming and soothing and though he was dressed rather nicely for the feast, he just didn't want to leave yet. D'von kept putting it off for one more stroke of his hand. It was time for him to get going, yes, but Evyth was such a part of him he almost feared that leaving his presence meant that he may leave his mind as well.

D'von soon found that it was not something to concern himself about. Evyth was still there. He was completely and utterly asleep, having no trouble falling into slumber and staying there. He could feel the blue there always in the back of his mind. It kept the simple smile on his face as he sauntered into the hall. The aromas had led him there and considering that all morning they had been at hatching and not breakfast, it was no wonder he made his way there quickly. That and his long legs and long strides, even when he was walking slowly and casually. D'von just grinned and with hands in his pocket he strolled in.

Tidur stroked his sleeping beast, a soft fondness in his eyes. The little green was oblivious to the world as she snored loudly, speckles of blood decorating her maw. The chestnut haired boy smiled and grabbed a rag to gently clean his hatchling's jaws. When he was finished, he walked towards his chest. Glancing back every so often at his new partner, he slipped into his formal shirt and trousers. The shirt and pants were made of finery the young boy wasn't used to. The cloth was soft and hung lossely on his skinny frame. He stroked his fingers on the soft, forest green sleeves. he former drudge made a note to thank the Staff of the Weyr. They had been nothing but kind to him since he arrived. Finally dressed, he gave his Vixtryth one last caress before heading out the door.

He kept his eyes to the floor and shuffled along with the crowd towards the mess hall. Once his feet found the entrance of the human equivalant of the Feeding Grounds, he cautiously looked up. Tidur was relieved that only a few folks had shown up so far. He knew he was a dragon rider, equal in rank to all the Weyrlings there, but the boy still felt smaller, less significant. He steered towards an empty table and sat down, warily watching the growing crowd.

--------------------------------------------

D'mon quickly entered the dining hall, inspecting the preparations, all the while wondering where his Weyrwoman was. He was tempted to have Hatath ask Isiloth, but he decided to let his Weyrmate have some peace. It was quite the blow that that ingrate had Impressed Southern's junoir queen. The Weyrleader nodded his head absently at V'ran as he strode past.He had been proud of his bronze's clutch, but the creature's prowess and in turn, his own, seemed marred by the death of the green. It had been a fine creature, why did they have to loose such a promising dragon? There had been more than enough Candidates this time around, both boys and girls....Poor Hatath. His mount had been so depressed...Good thing a dragon's memory was short.

M'tur himself didn't really mind all the moving. Thoughts just whizzed around in his head as he moved from his old living quarters to the new. Truth be told M'tur could have moved everything in one try, but he was too unfocused at the moment to even be able to do that. As he finished up on his second round he would dress himself for the feast that everyone seemed to be talking about. As M'tur finished up getting ready he would take a look at his blue. Lianth was sound asleep, and from what he was told he probably would be for a while.

'I don't really like the idea of leaving Lianth behind but I figure it is a good time to actually get to meet everyone as during my whole time here before the hatching I only met Roslynn. Oh yea.. I also met the new gold rider... Though she wasn't all that nice... I wonder if impressing the gold changed her any?'

M'tur walked calmly, though in his mind he kept thinking about Lianth, as he made his way to the dining hall. 'Who will I sit by? Am I even late? What if I get there too early?' So many questions ran through M'tur's mind as he got closer and closer to the dining hall. M'tur would place a smile on his face as he walked in.

-------------------------------------------------------

B'ral wasted no time when it came to moving his stuff. It might have taken him a while longer than others, but the faster he finished that faster he could spend time with Ouleth. If he ever woke up that is. Turns out though that there was a feast to attend.

'Why not go... This way I can get acquainted with the new gold rider, and I'll be able to see if the other bronze riders are any competition. Though I highly doubt it. No one can beat the team of Ouleth and I...'

B'ral swiftly changed as he thought to himself. Before he stepped out he would take a second to admire the bronze that was sleeping. B'ral seemed to waste not much time. 'The sooner I get there and meet the people I need to.. The sooner I can leave.' B'ral didn't plan on staying there longer than he had to, but then again stuff happens. The walk was rather annoying when he wanted to hurry and get there. B'ral would have a blank look on his face as he himself entered the dining hall.

Ironically, what Siten most wanted at just that moment was to find D'mon. She knew she was running late, but there had been a hundred things to take care of after the hatching, many of which she could have been far better prepared for, if she'd thought of them. ...Well, no matter. She'd just do better, next time. It couldn't be helped.

Once everything seemed to be taken care of, she darted back to her Weyr to change and... find no D'mon. Sighing, she hastened into appropriate (enough) attire and made her way swiftly to the feast. Hopefully, he'd be there.

Sure enough, there he was. Swiftly, but with as much composure as she could muster, she slipped through the crowds and walked up beside him, laying a hand on his arm to get his attention. "D'mon?" she said softly. She was, of course, going to have to split away and make a little speech, later, but it would be little, indeed, and this was far, far more important. She just hoped she'd have enough time to talk to him, first.

The bronze rider was a bit startled when the woman lay her hand on his arm. To his credit, he only jumped a little bit, but Hatath rumbled with amusement in head. D'mon couldn't help growling at his dragon. Eyes focusing back on the outside world, his brown eyes focused on Siten. He looked her up and down, measuring her attire. She looked decent enough. But she seemed like she had something urgent to tell her Weyrleader. He nodded to the brunette and laid his hand on hers. Smiling pleasantly he led her to a quieter area. Leaning over and pressing a kiss to her cheek, he whispered.

"Is there something you need to say."

There was a long pause as Siten considered exactly how to handle the situation, but she was swiftly shifting between giddiness and a more serious mood, and when she finally gave up and opted to respond, giddiness was (momentarily) winning out. Going up on her toes, for D'mon was a fair bit taller than she, she kissed the Weyrleader, a brief gesture, but properly done, at least, and, as she pulled back, replied softy, "Thank you."

Settling back on her heels, she looked up at him, and the giddiness receded again. Her gratitude, however, did not, at least, and she couldn't help but smile. Despite the lost hatching, the clutch had gone fantastically well, overall, especially for a maiden clutch, and the hatching had been more than enough to set her to excitement, no small part of which could be attributed quite entirely to D'mon. Considering the (admitted) tension of their overall relationship, she really couldn't see any reason why she shouldn't thank him for the gesture, and a hundred reasons why she should.

D'mon stood there for a second, a little shell shocked by Siten's kiss. He couldn't help smiling down at her and this time, it was geniune. He wrapped an arm around her shoulders. Ah, so she was happy about the order he had Hatath relay. Of course, Siten was probably also joyful about the clutch. Hatath and Isiloth had certainly done well. All in a day's work, the bronze rider thought proudly, chest puffing up slightly.

Twenty three fine dragons to add to their wings. Perhaps it would be a good idea to send them back in time like Isiloth and Siten had done....No, he must focus on now and leave the scheming for later. Enjoy these moments of peace while they lasted...He wondered what to say. Wasn't Siten supposed to address the new Weyrlings as well? It didn't seem like all of them were there yet.

Siten settled under D'mon's arm comfortably, musing for an amused moment that, quite possibly for the first time, they finally looked like a Weyrleader and Weyrwoman ought to look. Oh, well. You couldn't have everything, and, considering, she thought that things had been going rather well, thus far. Isiloth certainly felt so, and though D'mon wouldn't have been her first choice, she was reminded, once more, of the potential devastation that had been so narrowly averted when the queen flew. One northern bronze had come precariously close to winning. That had been far more dangerous than D'mon's victory could have been.

As she stood there, she paused for a moment to do a swift head count of those Weyrlings she could see, and found herself coming up very short, including, she noted, one rather brilliant head of red hair that really did need to be there. "D'mon?" she asked quietly. "Do you see our new queenrider anywhere?" Oh, she hoped this girl wasn't going to be as much trouble for them as she thought...

V'ran had long since determined, however, that she would, and, with a sigh, caught the arm of a passing drudge, leaning in to address the bright eyed young man quietly. "If you could be so kind as to deliver a message for me?" he asked softly.

Blinking, the drudge nodded. "Of course, brownrider. What is it?"

"In either the Weyrling Barracks, the Crafter's wing, or trying to slip stealthily in for ... probably klah... there will be a skinny redheaded girl, built like a boy of fourteen or thereabouts, with a brown firelizard," he began softly, but the drudge was already nodding.

"Oh, yes. We all know who she is," the man promised, and the faint undercurrent of irritation in his tone brought a smile to V'ran's lips. Apparently, they did, indeed.

"If you see her, please let her know that V'ran said that if he does not see her at the feast before the night runs much longer, she can anticipate a full-scale search, followed shortly by the immediate assignment of a personal nursemaid, lest she become lost again. She is, of course, far too dear to us to risk without any and all necessary measures to keep her ... safe." There was no question, by his tone, just what word belonged in place of 'safe', and by the darkly amused smile on the drudge's face, the man had understood that.

Bobbing his head politely to the brownrider, the drudge replied quickly, "I'll see to it she knows you said so, brownrider," before hastening off. He was looking forward to delivering this particular message. From a doorway. From which he could make a hasty getaway. Hopefully with a good view.

To be honest, Fen was just a bit peeved at having to move his stuff. He'd just gotten everything settled in and now he had to move it all again! Shells it was annoying... Still, he didn't have all that much to move and Aeyth was more than happy to help despite his full belly. It was rather comical to watch him dragging random items in his mouth with his sagging stomach, but the help saved Fen a few trips. With the time saved he was able to thoroughly oil Aeyth's hide, a chore that didn't take long at all. He'd savor it for now, as the Bronze would get quite large all too quickly.

With his dragon taken care of, he moved to rifle through his trunk for something suitable to wear. He'd never been to such a formal occasion before and was worried that he wouldn't have anything to wear. Fortunately, he found a nice white tunic and black pants suitable to wear to the feast. Dressed and ready, he turned around to sit on his cot, watching Aeyth's sides rise and fall. What a partner. He could just see it now, riding the massive Bronze into battle against the North, sword flashing in the light...

Don't you have somewhere to be, Mine?

"Maybe..." F'rir shrugged as he stood with a wolfish grin. "I'll see you later, Aeyth. I'm hungry as a hatchling."

If you say so. The Bronze sighed as he curled back up to go to sleep, thrumming affectionately as His left the room.

As hungry as Fen was, he still hadn't learned the proper way to the dining cavern, not that it really mattered. So far he'd been able to find his way there eventually, if only half an hour after beginning his journey there. This time he'd gotten turned around quite soon and found himself heading toward the kitchens, though he wasn't alone. He passed a drudge or two, but it was the redhead who thought she was being sneaky that caught his attention. She may have thought she had the stealth of a ninja, but she was really just drawing more attention to herself.

"Hiding from a secret admirer?" He piped up as he approached her from behind, grinning jovialy. "F'rir of Bronze Aeyth." He wasted no time in introducing himself, holding out his hand for her to shake.

Poor Dairine. She had actually done a fairly good job of hiding... so far. As such, she was feeling rather confident that she would be able to make it to the kitchens, get a quick bite to eat, and then head back to curl up with Areuth. As it was, she could still feel the sleeping hatchling in the back of her mind, and her concentration broke for a moment as she reveled in the feeling of 'rightness' about it. The feeling that Areuth belonged there, and the wonderment that she had ever survived without her presence.

Unfortunately, that was the WRONG moment for her to lose her concentration.

"Hiding from a secret admirer?"

Dairine yelped, whirling around, eyes wide as she gasped, a hand automatically placing itself over her heart as she tried to calm her racing pulse. "Don't DO that! You nearly gave me a heart attack!" She panted out, struggling to calm her nerves. Klah. Yes, she needed klah. Badly.

F'rir, huh? Her eyebrows furrowed, before she managed to place him. He had Impressed the bronze that had, for lack of a better word, shepherded the other hatchlings to Thiers. She gritted her teeth slightly, not really in the mood to talk much (especially to someone that had nearly given her a heart attack), but figured that she might as well be polite... or at least what passed for polite with her. They would probably have to interact during lessons and all that.

"Dairine, of Areuth." No need to state the color of her dragon, only three girls total had Impressed after all. And the least attention she drew, the better. "And no, I wasn't hiding from someone... except probably V'ran, knowing him he'd make me go to the feast. I was actually trying to sneak to the kitchens so I could get something to eat, and take it somewhere quiet. By myself."

Unfortunately, that wasn't to be. By then, the drudge had finally tracked her down, and seemed to take great amusement in relaying the message. By the end of it, Dairine was FUMING, you could almost HEAR the growl coming from her throat.

"Oh, is V'ran going to GET it when I get ahold of him." Honestly, the brownrider should know her well enough by now to know how she HATED interacting with others. And social functions were the worst! She would have to be POLITE! To many different PEOPLE! Who she didn't know or didn't like! The prospect alone was making her gag reflex want to act up.

"... He technically can't say anything if I walk in for five seconds, show myself, then get out..." She mused, wondering if it would actually work.
